Matthew McCoy was chosen as our Student of the Month for September. He’s a senior at Johnson Co. High School and he can be found playing football and tennis for the Trojans! Matthew works at Sumner Pharmacy, and has future plans to become a Pharmacist. Fun fact about Matthew: he loves to donate to local bake sales!

Our teacher chosen by Matthew, was none other than Ms. Gina Bright. She’s a teacher at JCHS and is also the director of the Beta Club. She attends Buckeye Christian Church and can be found all over the community with her Beta kids and their projects! She enjoys cooking and baking in her free time.

The word to describe this pair would loyal. Any time any help is needed, these are the two to call. We are thankful to honor them and their commitment to serving others. 🤍

The Rotary Club of Wrightsville began its new year by recognizing the leadership of its outgoing president, Penny Foskey. Leading the club with its traditional service goals, Penny's emphasis was assisting with the needs of the elderly in our community. This was accomplished through the nursing homes, assisted living facilities and the senior citizen's center. A highlight of the year was treating the men and women at the senior citizen's center with a pizza party and a program on protecting one's self from fraud.

The Rotary members also welcomed its new president, Aubrey Harrison. Penny passed the gavel to the youngest president the club has ever had. But youth will not be a deterrent to Aubrey as she provides leadership for its members. Her enthusiasm, enduring personality and devotion to the goals of Rotary are traits that will be of value in providing meaningful leadership. Aubrey, a native of Johnson County, is employed at Farm Bureau. She will be a strong leader in continuing the club's projects that impact our community and embracing some new avenues of service.

Rotary is an International service club with the theme of Service Above Self. It is best known for its work in the elimination of polio and other childhood diseases throughout the world. Thousands of people worldwide are alive today due to this project. Wrightsville Rotary meets each Wednesday at noon at the Pizza Place. If you are interested in becoming a Rotarian, please contact Aubrey, Penny or any other Rotarian for information. It is an enjoyable and worthwhile way to make a positive difference in our community and the world.

We had the honor and privilege of speaking with our seniors at the Johnson County Senior Center about Elder Money Fraud. Derek Williams from Century Bank and Trust and Richie Everly of Bank of Wrightsville gave excellent tips on how to prevent Elder Scams.

We also gifted them a monetary donation to help with their activities. They are the pillars of our community and we appreciate the impact they have made! ❤️
