Here is my story on why… I SHOULD BE A WRIGHT CITY ALDERMAN!!!!
I have been a Wright City resident since 2016. I am married to Lance, a 20-year Navy Veteran. I’m a mother to a son and three stepdaughters and a grandmother. I was born and raised in Burlington, Iowa where I graduated from Burlington High school in 1986. I moved to Milwaukee, WI in 1986, and resided there for more than 30 years. In Milwaukee, I earned an Associated Degree in Nursing from Waukesha County Technical College, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Cardinal Stritch University, and a Master’s Degree in Nursing - Management and Leadership from Walden University. I am currently a Nursing Professor for Missouri Baptist University and work as a Registered Nurse at local hospitals.
I am a Christian woman and a member of Wesley Smith Chapel UMC in Wright City, where I am the Healthcare Ministries Coordinator and choir member. I was recently elected as a board member for the Wright City Community Food Panty. Auxiliary member of Veteran of Foreign Wars – Post 5077. I volunteer my services for the Food Pantry’s Annual Fish Fry, as well as other religious and community events. I’m currently working with the Wright City R-II School District towards developing a strategic Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP) for its upcoming accreditation. A member of the American Nurses Association, and National League of Nursing and a former Board Member at Large for the Milwaukee Chapter National Black Nurses Association.
Wright City is a growing city with a diverse community. There is a large minority presence in Wright City that needs to be represented and their voices need to be heard. As an Alderman, I will listen, acknowledge, and address ALL citizens’ concerns. Then bring this information back to the board with ideas to address the issues. I have compassion for people and a vision for Wright City’s rapid growth.
One of my top priorities would be to address homelessness. There is a lack of affordable housing in Wright City, and this includes affordable housing for veterans, seniors, and low-income families. Individuals who were born and grew up here are having a difficult time finding affordable housing. Wright City is home to one of the largest minority populations in the area and with the new plant being built in Wright City; our minority population will increase. Providing a safe place for our youth, by potentially opening a Boy’s and Girls’ Club or youth center. This will ensure that our children will have a positive and safe place to play, learn, and succeed in living a productive life. I will address these topics in more details in a later post. My focus is aimed at moving Wright City forward in a positive and productive manner while maintaining transparency.
I believe I am qualified for the job, as I am passionate for Wright City. I care for my community, the people that reside here, and the vision for future growth. Yes! Wright City’s population is growing. Therefore, we must grow with the city’s growth. I also share similar life experiences as many of our Wright City residents. Our Wright City families are struggling to find a stable place to call home. During my time in Milwaukee, WI; I experienced many ups and downs and financial challenges. I remember days when I didn’t know where I would get my next meal or even if I was going to be able to keep the lights on that month. But I had the drive to do better and get out of that poverty-stricken state. As a Registered Nurse, I received formal training to assess and use critical thinking to develop and implement plans to bring about positive outcomes with others collaboration. I will continue to use these skills to move Wright City in a safe, positive, and productive manner, while maintaining transparency.
