The Worthington Chamber Singers, along with the Worthington Brass, invite the community to celebrate the season of Advent with our annual concert on December 8, 2024, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Worthington: Love Came Down. This inspiring performance will honor the Advent themes of love, peace, and hope, inviting attendees to reflect on the warmth of the holiday season.
The concert will feature the world premiere of Ya Germinaba, a moving new composition by Reinaldo Moya, with lyrics by acclaimed poet Rossy Lima. This piece, commissioned especially for the Worthington Chamber Singers, explores the wonder and beauty of creation and the powerful, timeless presence of love. Moya’s rich Venezuelan musical heritage and Lima’s evocative text combine to create a work that celebrates both the individual and collective spirit of humanity. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Southwest Minnesota Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
The program will also include classic and beloved seasonal pieces that highlight the themes of Christmas and unity, including:
• O Yule, Full of Gladness
• Silent Night
• Love Came Down at Christmas
• This Little Light of Mine
Love Came Down is a concert that will speak to audiences across all backgrounds. While Worthington’s diverse community includes many faith traditions, this concert’s focus on love speaks universally to our shared values. Attendees will have the opportunity to experience the world premiere of a piece that celebrates Worthington Chamber Singer’s commitment to artistic growth and cultural diversity.
Tickets and Admission
Admission is free, but free-will donations will be taken to support the Worthington Chamber Singers and local charities. We encourage families, friends, and community members to gather for an afternoon of beautiful music and heartfelt reflection as we enter the Christmas season.
