On behalf of the Richieball Head Council, we want to share the news of the passing of one of the true staples of this event, Sue Stabosz.
Many of you knew Sue as Spoonman’s mom.
After Spoonman’s passing, Sue continued to show up to Richieball year after year not for recognition, not for attention but because it mattered to her. For more than two decades, she spent the entire day cooking in the heat for hundreds of people, doing the work that needed to be done and doing it without fuss.
Sue didn’t do things halfway. She had high standards, strong opinions, and made sure things were done the right way whether you were ready for it or not. And somehow, Richieball wouldn’t have felt right without her presence.
Her consistency, toughness, and commitment earned her a well deserved place in the Richieball Hall of Fame, an honor reserved for those who have truly shaped this event.
As we look ahead to Richieball this August, the Head Council will work to identify a meaningful way to recognize Sue’s legacy one defined by showing up, putting in the work, and being part of this thing year after year.
We extend our condolences to Sue’s family and loved ones. She was part of Richieball’s fabric, and she always will be.
