Through a screening of The Chaplain & The Doctor and a discussion with filmmaker Jessica Zitter, MD, MPH, and Chaplain Betty Clark, MDiv, attendees explored how physicians, chaplains and care teams can work together to support patients and families facing difficult medical decisions.

This summer, tee up in honor of Roland Card and the quest to develop more effective treatments for glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer. The fifth annual Roland's DRIVE against CANCER will be held on Monday, Aug. 17, at Kettle Brook Golf Club in Paxton.

Proceeds benefit the research of David Cachia, MD, professor of medicine in the Division of Hematology/Oncology at UMass Chan Medical School. Dr. Cachia is working with basic scientists to translate research discoveries into clinical approaches for treating glioblastoma.

In April, the team running the Boston Marathon on behalf of the UMass ALS Cellucci Fund once again delivered, raising more than $81,000 for pioneering ALS research at UMass Chan Medical School. Collectively, the marathon teams representing the Cellucci Fund since 2012 are approaching the extraordinary milestone of $1 million raised—bringing hope for better treatments, or even a cure, for this devastating disease.

Reunion 2026 welcomed alumni from the T.H. Chan School of Medicine to campus for an inspiring day of reconnection and reflection. Alumni enjoyed the opportunity to look back at the educational experiences that shaped their careers and ahead to the future of health care through a full program, including campus tours, a candid student panel discussion and meaningful time to reminisce with classmates.

Tiffany A. Moore Simas, MD’00, R’04, and her husband, Brett Simas, have established the Moore Simas Family Scholarship at UMass Chan Medical School to support medical students with demonstrated financial need.

Both Central Massachusetts natives, Tiffany and Brett say their gift reflects the profound impact the Medical School has had on their lives, their family and the community.

“UMass Chan has left an indelible mark on our family, and we feel tremendous gratitude,” said Brett. Tiffany added, “I attribute where I am professionally to UMass Chan. I’ve been afforded opportunities at every step in my career as a student, resident, faculty and chair.”

A new scholarship from Tiffany A. Moore Simas, MD’00, R’04, MPH, MEd, MHCM, and her husband Brett Simas, MBA, will ease the financial stress on aspiring physicians at UMass Chan Medical School.

After losing their 17-year-old son, Patrick, to the aggressive brain cancer glioblastoma, Meg and Michael Halvorsen created a co****le tournament in his honor to support pediatric brain cancer research at UMass Chan Medical School.
