Rascal's Rescue

Rascal's Rescue We believe that no cat is beyond hope and all deserve a chance at love- even those labeled feral.

Rascal's Rescue is a nonprofit in Wayne County, Ohio that has set out to focus on those that are most often overlooked; the ferals. By focusing on the harder cases, the stray and community cats will be cared for as well. We are a small, volunteer organization that rescues, socializes and rehomes former stray and feral cats.

I know sometimes hard decisions have to be made, but I wasn't ready for one this soon.

Marion is an amazing girl that has gotten a pretty short stick this year. First she lost her dad, then she ended up with a kind neighbor that couldn't really love on her or be loved by her because she was incredibly allergic.

Then she came here.

We thought she had a new home but it turns out she's something of a princess and doesn't want to have to share her human with other felines. So she came back.

And now, with so much hinging on the IRS getting stuff straightened out at their end so that I can complete registrations that would make it possible for me to get her in front of people and get her a better chance at finding her new home, I have to consider that taking her back to the agency that first placed her may be for her best.

It'd definitely free her from the other hooligans here still looking for homes, (Tux and Creamstick,) but also leaves me feeling like I failed her.

If anyone seeing this is interested in adopting her, please reach out. She's spayed, just over 4 years old, in good health, and ready to give and receive lots of love.

Turns out I made a massive mistake. I double and triple checked, but I still failed.

Thankfully, the good doctor at Mairs corrected me today when the little Ohana went in for a check up.

(They are all looking and sounding great and have been cleared to begin deworming protocol.)

But my mistake is that Lilo is Stitch and Stitch is Lilo. 😂 In my defense, I hadn't rechecked in the last week. But in the grand scheme of things, it makes sense that Stitch and Angel would share a closer resemblance.

So yes, the little tiger is Lilo, the firstborn with the grey spot on his butt is Stitch, and the other with a bit of grey on her tail is still Angel.

Ohana Update:

Lilo, Stitch and Angel got their last dose of antibiotics yesterday at 3 am. (That's the time I got home from Metropolitan Vet Hospital and I wasn't about to make them wait longer for relief because it might be inconvenient.) At that time, only Lilo showed just the slightest hint of open mouth breathing.

While monitoring today, and during their daily weight check, I didn't see even a hint of breathing issues! And according to their weights, they aren't just doing well, they are thriving!

Nani is doing an amazing job and is just the sweetest girl.

Stitch is already opening his eyes and had no problem expressing his displeasure about the icky medicine.

This beautiful girl is still looking for someone to call hers.

Marion is an absolute love that lost her human earlier this year. A kind neighbor took her in for a while, but she was very allergic and reached out to us to help with finding Marion a new forever home.

Marion is 4 years old so the kitten crazies are in the past but she still has energy to play. What she really wants though is someone to love on. She actually loves loves so much that she will stand up to meet your hand when you are reaching to pet her.

She is however, a quintessential only child; she does not want to share her human with other felines. She may to okay with a dog with a slow introduction.

If you'd like to meet her, please don't hesitate to reach out.

UPDATE: We're home. The littles now have antibiotics. They should soon be able to breathe easier and the sneezing should stop soon. Thankful for Metropolitan Vet Hospital.

If you're the praying type, we'd be grateful for your prayers this morning.

Mama's babies are showing signs of upper respiratory infections so we are at Metro Vet. They've just been taken back to get checked out. I'll update as I get info.

These three amazing girls are back home now. I won't soon forget them and am blessed to have met them.

It's been a busy day today.

We had been contacted previously about coordinating spays for three Amish barncats. They were picked up this afternoon and will be able to enjoy some cushy climate controlled digs complete with kibble and a fresh can of tuna for the night before their adventure tomorrow. Depending on when the clinic releases them, they will get one or two more nights in soft comfort to recover.

But mama didn't want to lose the spotlight, evidently. She decided to prove the vet wrong and decided tody was a good day to have three little kittens. Mama is understandably tired but is full of purrs, and the babies are doing well on the milk bar.

Mama passed her SNAP test on Friday with flying colors. She has a slight case of the sniffles and some stomatitis, but otherwise is in good health. She seems to have given her stamp of approval to the box offered as she spent most of the day happily napping in it. According to the vet's estimate, the kittens should be here before too long.

I'd seen her only occasionally at work. She's a striking feline so it's hard not to notice her. When she started showing up consistently in the early morning hours to take advantage of the kibbles I put out while driving, I took notice.

She's one of a number of community cats in an area that is saturated. There are a few good people doing everything they can, but even one cat slipping past can keep a situation feeling overwhelming.

I tracked down her feeder and coordinated with him to get her off the streets so she can have her kittens in safety and then get spayed. She has an appointment to get vet checked tomorrow morning.

In the mean time, anyone have name suggestions for this pretty mama?

Former feral ASMR

One year ago tonight, Mandarin walked into a humane trap and his life forever changed. He wasn't too pleased about it to begin with, and he had no problem letting us know his opinions, but he has since changed his mind.
