Our volunteers are a big part of Homeward Bound.

So far this year, 703 of our 1,016 volunteer shifts have been dedicated to meals, adding up to 1,976 hours of service.

Through August, we have served 29,481 meals this year. On average, about half of the meals we serve each month are provided by volunteer groups, including churches, individuals, families, and other community groups.

Every meal prepared, delivered, and served represents someone in our community choosing to give their time to help others.

We are so thankful for everyone who has volunteered at Homeward Bound and helped make these meals possible.

Everything donated will be greatly appreieated!

A bed can be more than a bed.

For someone experiencing homelessness, having a safe place to sleep can mean having a chance to rest, feel safe, and focus on what comes next.

At Homeward Bound, shelter is just one part of what we provide.

We want to help people meet their basic needs while connecting them with support and resources that can help them work toward greater stability.

Sometimes, having somewhere safe to start is an important first step.

What does a day at Homeward Bound look like?

There is a lot happening inside our doors every day.

Guests may start their day with breakfast, take a shower, do laundry, meet with case management, connect with community resources, have lunch, and work on the next steps toward greater stability.

Then there is dinner, cleaning, preparing for the next day, and making sure everyone has a safe place to sleep.

There are also volunteers, staff, meal groups, donations, and community partners helping make it all happen.

It takes a lot of people working together to keep Homeward Bound running.

What does homelessness look like?

The truth is, there isn't one answer.

People experiencing homelessness come from many different backgrounds and have many different stories. It can include individuals, families, veterans, people who have lost a job, and people facing other challenges that have affected their ability to maintain stable housing.

You can't always know what someone is going through just by looking at them.

Taking the time to learn more about homelessness can help us better understand the people in our community and respond with compassion.

Today is World Homeless Day, a day to bring awareness to homelessness and the people who experience it in communities around the world.

Homelessness can happen for many different reasons, and there is no one story or situation that defines every person experiencing it.

Here in Wayne County, Homeward Bound provides a safe place to stay, warm meals, showers, laundry, support, and connections to resources for people experiencing homelessness.

Today, we encourage our community to take a moment to learn more, challenge misconceptions, and remember that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and compassion.

We are excited to invite you to an evening supporting Homeward Bound and celebrating the people who help make our work possible.

This year’s dinner will honor Janet Burkhart and will include a social hour, silent auction, dinner, and a short program.

When someone comes to Homeward Bound, we want to provide more than just a safe place to sleep.

We provide:
Safe shelter
Warm meals
Hot showers
Laundry
Connections to community resources

These basic needs can make a big difference when someone is working toward stability.

A safe place to stay can give someone the time and support they need to focus on what comes next.
