The United Way of Wayne and Holmes Counties started as the Wooster Community Chest from 1940 to 1957. In 1957, the Community Chest was replaced by the Wooster United Fund, governed by an 18-member Board of Trustees elected from the general public. In 1974, the Wooster United Fund changed its name to United Way of Wooster, Inc. to better

align itself with the national movement of local United Ways. In 2002, United Way of Wooster changed its name to United Way of Wayne and Holmes Counties in an effort to better identify the communities served by the agency.

Ashley & her son Clayden volunteered this morning at Christ’s Cupboard at Killbuck Methodist Church and we are so grateful for all of the incredible people who give their time and heart to help their neighbors.

A special thank you to Lisa Kauffman, Abbie Allison, Pastor Ken, and everyone who makes this possible.

In 1995, Dolly Parton started mailing books to children in her home county to inspire children to love reading in honor of her dad, who couldn’t read or write.

That idea lives here too. Every month, over 6,000 children in Wayne and Holmes Counties find a book in the mailbox — because of neighbors who fund it, volunteers who run it, and a woman from Sevier County, TN who started it all.

Today, we mourn the passing of Dolly Parton, a beloved entertainer, philanthropist, and champion for children.

At United Way Wayne and Holmes Counties, we are honored to serve as the local partner for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. Because of Dolly's vision, thousands of children across our community receive books each month, helping spark a love of reading and opening doors to a brighter future.

Today, our hearts are heavy, but we are so grateful for her generosity, her belief in children, and the legacy she leaves behind.
