Happy Donut Day!

That’s right! Today is National Donut Day, and while it may feel like a fun excuse to enjoy something sweet, it actually has a powerful history of service behind it.

During World War I, Salvation Army volunteers, who would become known as the Donut Lassies, served fresh donuts to soldiers on the front lines. It wasn’t just about the donuts. It was about bringing comfort, care, and a small reminder of home in the middle of hardship.

From the very beginning, meeting human needs wherever it’s found has been at the heart of this work.

And that’s what still guides everything today.
National Donut Day was born out of that mindset; meeting a need in a meaningful, practical way.

And just like those Donut Lassies so many years ago, we’re still in the trenches today: showing up, serving with compassion, and meeting people right where they are.

That’s why, on a day like today, we invite you to continue standing alongside this Army.

Because while donuts may not be the need of the hour, the heart behind them still lives on in every meal served, every bed provided, and every life cared for.
