Hats Of Hope

Hats Of Hope Hats of Hope was started by our 10 year old son Carson who is in Treatment for Medulloblastoma.

He loves to wear many hats and he came up with the idea to spread hope to other Warriors going through their journey!

Even though today is the last day of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, I pray the momentum doesn’t end here. 🎗️💛

Because the truth is, until the day we heard those words, we weren’t “cancer moms” either. We were just living our lives, never imagining that childhood cancer would become part of our story. And once it did, everything changed—our kids’ futures, our family’s days, our hearts.

Awareness isn’t about a single month. It’s about the children still fighting, the ones who have finished treatment but carry the lasting scars, and the ones who should still be here. It’s about families like mine who know the weight of those words all too well.

So I ask—please don’t let the gold fade tomorrow. Carry it with you, for our kids. Always.

💛 The Power of And 💛

At a recent retreat, I was challenged to really lean into the power of And. It made me pause and put so much of our journey into perspective.

For so long, I thought I had to choose — to either be strong or tired, hopeful or afraid, grateful or grieving. But learning to incorporate And showed me that I could be all of those things at once. I could hold joy and sorrow, bravery and fear, gratitude and frustration.

Looking back on our cancer journey, I realize that And was always there — I just didn’t have the words for it. It’s what got us through. It’s what gave space for both the beauty and the heartbreak, the wins and the losses, the light and the heavy.

At Hats of Hope, we honor that same truth: families don’t need to be “just one thing.” We’re allowed to live in the messy middle, where And makes room for healing, compassion, and hope.

✨ Today, I invite you to embrace your And. Because every part of your story matters.

Over the last 5 years, our family has walked through some of the hardest moments as we navigated cancer together. 💛 On the Compassion Delivered Podcast, I sat down with Amanda to open up about what it’s been like as a caregiver — the struggles, the emotions in the moment, and how we leaned on each other to get through. It’s just scratching the surface of our journey, but it comes straight from the heart!

The cancer fight doesn’t end when treatment does. For many kids, survivorship comes with a lifetime of challenges. Late effects from chemo, radiation, and surgery can impact growth, learning, heart and organ function, fertility, and mental health. Regular scans, therapies, and follow-up appointments become part of their “new normal.”

While the outside world may see a child who “beat cancer,” families know the battle continues long after the final treatment. This is why awareness matters—not just for the fight to cure, but for the care and quality of life our kids deserve after. 💛🎗️

Walking through the Wayne County Fair Carson suddenly stopped and said, “Mom, look—it’s one of our shirts!” 💛 We aren’t sure who was wearing it, but THANK YOU. That moment of recognition, of seeing our fight and our hope carried by others, was priceless.

I can only imagine the joy other kids feel when they spot these shirts out in the world. That’s what it’s all about—reminding them they are not alone, that their fight matters, and that their courage is seen.

Our kids deserve more than 4%. More than the bare minimum. They deserve hope, awareness, and action. Thank you to everyone who helps us keep that message alive. 💛🎗️

“Every Ribbon Has a Name”

Golden ribbons tell a story,
of battles fought too young,
of tiny hands that held on tight,
to hope when days felt long.

Childhood should be laughter,
with skies so wide and free,
yet some are asked to climb a mountain,
before they learn to read.

Heroes live in hospitals,
with courage in their eyes,
teaching all of us what strength is,
and how a soul still flies.

To the families walking with them,
your love lights every mile,
through the shadows and the heartache,
you still find ways to smile.

So let us stand together,
paint the month in gold,
until the day no child must fight,
a story yet untold.
