Fairmount Post 85 – 2019 Scholarship Application
The purpose of this fund is to provide financial assistance to graduating high school students who are going to pursue a college education, trade school, career training or students already engaged in the same. Only high school graduates who will be attending, or students currently in any of the programs noted above may apply. Applications will ONLY be accepted between May 1 and June 30.
The following criteria shall apply for all applicants:
I. Requirements:
1. The applicant must be a direct relative of an Active Fairmount Post 85 Member (American Legion), Active Friends of Fairmount Post Member or Active American Legion Post 85 Auxiliary Member. Members must be in good standing for at least one year, with current dues paid.
Or
The applicant must be a student or Boy/Girl Scout from the Post 85 general area, as determined by the Scholarship Committee.
2. The applicant must be a full time student with a minimum class load of 12 hours.
3. The applicant must maintain a minimum C grade.
II. Application Process:
1. Two awards each will be presented; one award for a Member’s relative and one award for the Post 85 area general public, as determined by the Post 85 Scholarship Committee. Both awards will be of equal amounts. The scholarship amounts may vary from year to year. You are ineligible if you have received this award the previous year. The Scholarship Committee may grant additional awards at their discretion if funding allows.
2. The applicant must complete the application packet which includes:
a.) The application.
b.) The most current copy of high school or college transcript through the last semester completed, including your class standing if available.
c.) Copies of community/school awards or citations, if any.
d.) For high school applicants, copy of acceptance letter from college, school, etc. planning to attend.
e.) The following essay question MUST be answered and included with the application packet:
How has the U.S. Military made a positive global impact during your lifetime?
3. The applicant must return the completed package to the Fairmount Post 85 Scholarship Committee.
4. The Fairmount Post 85 Scholarship Committee may interview finalists.
5. Decision of Scholarship Committee is final.
6. Award disbursements will occur during August of each year.
