The Virginia Covered Bridge Festival is held every year on the third Saturday in June in Woolwine. In conjunction with the festival, we host a 5K event.

Southern Virginia Child Advocacy Center - Patrick County satellite site will host the 9th Annual Covered Bridge 5K Run/Walk in connection with the Virginia Covered Bridge Festival. REGISTRATION FEES: *Earlybird Registration starts 2/1/19 - ends 5/24/19 midnight - $25.00 *Standard Registration starts 5/25/19 - ends 6/14/19 noon - $30.00 (Reduced rates for teams of 5+ and for individuals under age 12.) This year we will still be offering chip timing. Shirts will only be guaranteed to those who pre-register; availability and sizes are not guaranteed thereafter. Registration begins at 7:00 am, race at 8:00 am. Register at Smith River Church of the Brethren with transportation being provided via church vans to the starting line near Worley's Machines at the intersection of Route 8 and Elamsville Road. For more information, email Stephanie at [email protected] or call (276) 694-3945. DIRECTIONS Take Route 8 towards Woolwine, turn on Elamsville Road. About 1 mile down will be Smith River Church of the Brethren. PARKING Parking will be provided at the church. COURSE DESCRIPTION: The course will start approximately 1 mile from the registration site, near Worley's Machines at the intersection of Route 8 and Elamsville Road. The course will head south on Route 8 towards Jack's Creek Covered Bridge where you will run through the bridge then double-back to the starting line. Then you will turn right onto Elamsville Road towards Smith River Church of the Brethren. You will turn right onto Bob White Road and finish in the church parking lot where you registered. Except for running through the bridge, the entire course is on paved roadway, closed course with assistance from law enforcement, fire, and rescue. The covered bridge is one of only six public covered bridges in the state of Virginia. You will also see a private covered bridge on the course while on Route 8. (Bob White Covered Bridge was washed away in the flood of September 2015.) AWARDS *Overall Male and Overall Female. *Top 3 finishers in each age group and gender: Age divisions: 17 and under, 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+ *We try to give unique awards every year with all winners receiving a commemorative ornament of either Jack's Creek Covered Bridge or Bob White Covered Bridge designed by the Covered Bridge Festival Committee. The 2012 overall winners additionally received custom framed photographs of the two covered bridges. The 2013 overall winners received custom stained-glass sun catcher of the covered bridge. The 2015-2017 overall winners received family photography sessions with Mackenzie Mae and Hopespun Folktales at the covered bridges. Results will be displayed at http://coveredbridge5k.itsyourrace.com after the race. POST RACE ACTIVITIES The Covered Bridge Festival will begin at 10:00 am shortly after the race finish.
