Systemic JIA, also known as Still’s disease, is a rare form of Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis. It can cause inflammation in any tissue or organ, often detected through blood tests.

Key symptoms may include:
Spiking fevers that come and go
‘Salmon pink’ rash that flares with the fever
Swollen lymph glands
Joint inflammation (sometimes visible, sometimes not), known as ‘arthritis’

Children with Still’s disease are at higher risk of Macrophage Activation Syndrome (MAS). With MAS, the fever becomes persistent, and the person may become seriously unwell. MAS is a medical emergency.
