A Patient Stories of Strength and Healing- Finding Hope Again

After losing both of my children, I found myself struggling in ways I never expected. The grief was overwhelming, and I was having a difficult time coping with the anxiety, sadness, and depression that seemed to follow me every day.

I knew I needed help, so I reached out to the clinic. One of the best things that happened was being connected with SCHC. The provider took the time to listen to what I was going through and worked with me to get my medications under control. Having the right medications made a tremendous difference. It became easier to manage my anxiety, and the depression that often came with thinking about my sons was not as overwhelming as it had been before.

In addition to the support I received through the clinic, I also found comfort through a support group at my church. Having people around me who cared and understood what I was going through helped me feel less alone during some very difficult times.

Today, I am doing much better than I was when I first came to the clinic. The combination of medical care, medication management, and emotional support has helped me find stability and hope again. I still miss my children every day, and I always will, but I now have the tools and support I need to move forward and live my life in a healthier way.

I am grateful for the care I have received and for the people who have helped me through one of the hardest chapters of my life.

Too many in our community face untreated health issues like chronic pain and unmanaged conditions. We see the need: patients with limited access often end up in the ER. At ShenClinic.org we offer integrated support to change that. Fewer ER visits. Better chronic management. Compassionate behavioral care. We’re here for you and your family — visit www.Shenclinic.org to learn how we can help.

One of the best things about working here is getting to hear the stories of our patients, and all those lives that we have touched like this..............

A Journey Toward Healing- A Patients Story

When I first entered therapy, it was because treatment was court-mandated during one of the most difficult periods of my life. My children had entered Department of Social Services care, and I was struggling with stress, depression, and PTSD.

What started as something I had to do eventually became something I wanted to do. Therapy gave me a safe place to process what I was going through and learn healthier ways to cope.

One of the biggest changes has been in my relationships. Therapy helped me navigate the journey surrounding my children, and over time I built a positive relationship with their adoptive parents. I never imagined that would be possible when everything first happened.

Since starting therapy, I have not had a PTSD episode. My depression has improved, and my anxiety is now manageable. When I start feeling overwhelmed, I recognize it and tell myself, "I need therapy." I often arrive feeling uneasy and leave feeling lighter, calmer, and more in control.

Therapy has helped me slow down, think before I act, and manage my emotions in a healthier way. That was something I struggled with for a long time.

My fiancé has noticed the difference too. He has told me that therapy has helped me become a better person.

Looking back, I can honestly say that therapy changed the direction of my life. It gave me tools to heal, grow, and move forward in ways I did not think were possible.

Sometimes, the right things happen at exactly the right moment.

Last Friday, Shenandoah Community Health Clinic's (SCHC) Food Pharmacy experienced one of those moments. When our team arrived at the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank for our regular pickup, we were surprised with an additional donation of more than 400 pounds of chicken to help support local families facing food insecurity.

As grateful as we were, the donation came with an immediate question: Where are we going to put it all?

Knowing we needed freezer space quickly, our first call was to Cody at Beidler's Furniture Store. As always, Cody was ready to help. Within hours, he had arranged for a freezer to be delivered so we could safely store the donation and make sure it could get into the hands of the families who need it most.

Moments like this remind me why I love this community. When there is a need, people step up. Local businesses, volunteers, community partners, and neighbors all come together to find solutions and support one another.

At SCHC, we talk a lot about healthcare being more than what happens inside a clinic. Good health starts with access to the basics, including nutritious food. This week's experience was a great reminder that improving the health of our community takes all of us working together.

Thank you to everyone who played a role in making this happen. Thank you to the donors who provided the chicken, to Cody and the team at Bidler's for responding so quickly, and to our staff and volunteers who continue to make programs like our Food Pharmacy possible.

Sometimes blessings show up in unexpected ways. Last week, one came in the form of 400 pounds of chicken. Another came in the form of a local business owner willing to help at a moment's notice.

That is what community looks like, and we are grateful to be a part of it. ❤️

Call now to connect with business.

Did you know that a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) can be one of the most impactful ways to support local healthcare?

As healthcare funding continues to change, community support has never been more important. If you have a Donor-Advised Fund, we invite you to consider recommending a grant to Shenandoah Community Health Clinic.

Your support helps ensure that individuals and families in our community continue to have access to medical, dental, and behavioral health services regardless of their ability to pay.

A grant from your DAF is a meaningful, tax-efficient way to invest in the health and well-being of our community. Every gift helps us continue our mission and build a sustainable future for those who rely on us.

Thank you for standing with us and helping ensure healthcare remains accessible for all.

For more than 25 years, Shenandoah Community Health Clinic has been here for our community—providing medical, dental, behavioral health, and support services to those who need them most.

Today, like many healthcare organizations across the country, we are facing significant challenges brought on by changing healthcare policies, reductions in funding, and increasing demand for care. We have already seen more individuals and families needing affordable healthcare services, and we expect those needs to continue growing.

We want our community to know one thing: this is not the end of Shenandoah Community Health Clinic.

Over the coming weeks and months, we will be evaluating our programs, services, and operations to determine how we can best restructure and adapt to ensure the clinic remains a sustainable resource for our community for years to come. Some changes may be necessary, but our commitment to serving Shenandoah County and the surrounding region remains unchanged.

Our focus is not simply on surviving today's challenges—it is on building a stronger, more sustainable clinic that can continue providing access to healthcare regardless of a person's ability to pay.

We are grateful for the patients, partners, volunteers, donors, staff, and community members who have stood beside us throughout the years. Your support has helped make our work possible, and your continued support will help shape what comes next.

The road ahead may look different than it does today, but we believe the need for accessible healthcare in our community is greater than ever. We remain committed to finding solutions, strengthening partnerships, and continuing to serve.

Thank you for believing in our mission and in the future of healthcare in our community.

Be the first to help. 🚨
As the primary local provider for uninsured and underinsured families, Shenandoah Community Health Clinic is facing a severe funding gap, and we can’t do this alone.
Last year alone, your community stood with us:
• Over 90% of our patients were local community members and families
• 1,930 patients received vital care
• 6,061 total visits were completed
• $224,000+ was saved for patients through medication assistance programs

On average, sharing this fundraiser can inspire $50 in additional donations by helping us reach more people.

👉 Give $20 today to become a founding donor.
👉 Share this post to help us bridge the gap.

Every share and every dollar keeps healthcare accessible for those who need it most.
