From the Tibet Fund:

The abrupt suspension of government funding threatens to cause the collapse of essential healthcare infrastructure, disrupt education systems, and cause widespread economic distress in the 54 Tibetan settlements we serve across India and Nepal. Critical programs at immediate risk include:

Healthcare Infrastructure
Primary healthcare access for 70,000+ refugees
Life-saving treatment for 300+ patients with communicable diseases
Essential care for 130+ chronic illness patients
Mental health services for 120+ refugees
Maternal care for high-risk pregnancies

Education Services
Higher education funding for 590+ university students
Basic education for 10,000+ K-12 students
Professional development and vocational training programs

Economic Stability
Support for 600+ small businesses run by vulnerable families
Basic assistance for 180+ disabled refugees and political prisoner families
Sustenance for 560+ destitute monks and nuns

Cultural Heritage
Programs safeguarding the Tibetan language, arts, and cultural heritage, which remain under threat from systemic erasure and forced assimilation inside Tibet.

We know many of you have been following the news, and wanted you to be aware of how severely the withdrawal of U.S. funding may affect our ability to support Tibetans in the months and years ahead.

How many disabled presidents has led the United States ably? (I'd say maybe Abe Lincoln, too....)

Maybe someday we'll all acknowledge and speak about disability as something about as important as the state where you were born!

Looks like Facebook has restored control of this page to Tibet Aid!

We have suffered difficulties during the pandemic, with the loss of life of one of our staff and lost contact with important consultants. We have continued our support, nonetheless, of Tibetan refugees in India and Nepal, helping children, elders, monks, nuns, and families.

We are happy to be gaining momentum in 2022!

Should we be concerned about the comments His Holiness the Dalai Lama made about the appearance of a female successor?

https://www.huffpost.com/entry/dalai-lama-female-successor-attractive_n_5d162d45e4b07f6ca57c75b8

Having a female successor is no small matter, so it is possible that His Holiness is taking the focus off the important matter by these odd comments on an unimportant factor. Or perhaps he is simply stating a time-limited, historically constrained fact: in today's times, being attractive seems more important to many people than being deeply enlightened.

Most likely, in my opinion, is that he Is saying, with his usual impish humor, that he will do better in terms of appearance in the incarnation he chooses ... next time!

The Buddhist leader also rehashed past controversial comments about refugees in his latest BBC interview.
