MedPAC released its latest report, which includes several findings that reinforce the critical role licensed agents and brokers play in helping Medicare beneficiaries navigate increasingly complex coverage decisions.
The report acknowledges that Medicare beneficiaries frequently rely on agents and brokers when evaluating coverage options and generally report positive experiences with the guidance they receive. It also recognizes that many beneficiaries need personalized assistance beyond what government counseling programs and online tools can provide.
For millions of seniors, agents and brokers are more than enrollment specialists. They serve as year-round advocates, helping beneficiaries understand their coverage, resolve issues, navigate provider network changes, and make informed decisions as their healthcare needs evolve.
The report also highlights concerns regarding unregulated lead generation practices and offshore call centers, reinforcing the need for policymakers to strengthen oversight while preserving beneficiaries' access to trusted, licensed professionals.
