Happy Sunday!
This week’s “Listening with Meg” is in response to those asking me why I am running for office.
As we get closer to the primary, I've been thinking
more and more about what service actually means, and why I'm running for Town Clerk.
I was raised mainly by my grandparents, and 45 years ago, service looked different. It wasn't a talking point or a campaign strategy. It was showing up for your neighbors, your coworkers, your fellow parishioners; not because of what you'd get out of it, but because that's what you did. You cared for the people around you, and when the collective rose, you rose with them.
I saw that firsthand. I watched them live it quietly, consistently, without fanfare.
That's what this position means to me. It's not about what I gain. It's about what good work can happen when someone shows up with that same spirit; competent, steady, devoted to the people this office serves.
I'm not running to collect a title. I'm running because there's work to be done, and I know how to do it well. My grandparents taught me that service is about making things work for everyone, not just for the person in the role.
That's the kind of leadership I'm bringing. That's what I'm asking you to trust me with.
If this lands with you, or if you've been carrying thoughts about this election season you haven't said out loud yet, I'm here to listen and help.
In service,
Meg
