Help Keep your Neighbors Warm this Winter!

The Sustainable Woodstock WindowDressers build is coming up on November 5th – November 12th, 2026, and we need YOUR help to make it happen!

WindowDressers estimates that just 10 window inserts save an average of 105 gallons of heating fuel per year, saving a household over $550 annually (at ~$5.50/gal). After this fifth year, our collective work will save over 10,000 gallons of fuel and put $60,000 back into local pockets this winter alone!

There Are Roles for everyone looking to get involved: Whether you love hands-on work, prefer greeting volunteers, or enjoy cooking, we could use your help.

This September, we removed invasive Japanese barberry from the Woodstock Post Office area.

Shrubs near the sidewalk and elsewhere on the property were just starting to produce berries, so removing them at this time prevented their further spread. We dug up the roots and removed the plants. For those root balls that could not be extracted, the shrubs were cut down and will be monitored for re-sprouting.

Keep an eye out for this prickly bush with bright red berries! If you scrape or cut a stem, you will see a telltale bright yellow color. Dense infestations of Japanese barberry provide an ideal habitat for ticks- a great reason to get rid of it!

Film Screening: The Cost of Control

The Cost of Control explores a dilemma facing a growing number of New England homeowners: How do we protect ourselves and our families from ticks without harming the other life that shares our backyards?

This short film follows scientists from the Vermont Center for Ecostudies as they investigate residential tick-control practices across the Upper Valley, revealing the surprising effects of pesticide spraying on pollinators, other backyard insect wildlife, and the ticks themselves. Blending scientific discovery with the perspectives of landowners and conservation experts, our film asks us to think more deeply and holistically about how we interact with the ecosystems that surround us.

Following the screening, audience members are invited to stay for a Q&A with VCE scientists Jason Hill and Amber Jones, plus Xerces Society's agricultural conservation lead Emily May.

Greetings neighbors and friends!

As you may have heard, The Bunny Bin, Sustainable Woodstock, and Norman Williams Public Library are working tirelessly to launch Woodstock's first-ever Repair Café, a free family-friendly event at the Woodstock library on September 19 from 11am to 2pm.

But we need your help!

To start, please take a moment to check out http://repaircafe.org to learn more about the Dutch concept that we're working to bring to our own community this fall. The Green Door Folk School in MI did a beautiful job launching their own version last year and we highly recommend watching some of their content for some wholesome repair café inspiration. That's what we'll be doing as the date approaches!

We're also looking for just a minute of your time to answer a short survey. Your answers will help us staff the event with all the volunteer experts and artisans you're looking for.

Join us at the Market on the Green on July 22nd to give electric lawn care equipment a try. We'll have electric mowers and edgers available to test so that you can see if they are right for you.
