NICE JOB WALKER COUNTY! NOW WE JUST HOPE THAT YOU DO A BETTER JOB THAN FLOYD CO. ENFORCING THE MANDATORY ORDINANCE!!!

🐾Until communities are willing to enforce the laws they have enacted, the cycle of overpopulation will continue, and innocent animals will continue to pay the price.
🐾The solution is not complicated: support low-cost spay/neuter programs, hold irresponsible owners accountable, and enforce the ordinances that were created to protect animals and reduce suffering in the first place.

Pet owners in Walker County must now ensure their dogs and cats are spayed or neutered following approval of a new ordinance. The Walker County Board of Commissioners recently made changes to the county’s Animal Code to provide for spay/neuter requirements.

“We are extremely thankful the Board has supported us by taking a proactive approach to decreasing pet overpopulation in our county,” said Bailey Clements, director of animal services. “Our shelter took in over 2,000 dogs and cats last year and sadly less than nine-percent had been spayed or neutered.”

The code now states that no person may own, keep, or be in possession of a dog or cat that is six months of age or older which has not been spayed or neutered, unless they fall into one of three exemptions or hold a license for an unaltered animal.

Exemptions include:
1) A person who holds an active commercial breeder's license or pet dealer's license issued by the Georgia Department of Agriculture
2) A person holds a signed a document from a veterinarian expressing a medical opinion that the dog or cat should not be spayed or neutered for health reasons
3) The dog or cat is deemed to be a working animal trained and employed for farming, herding, hunting, service or show, with written proof such as training, law enforcement, or other actual activity as a working or documented service animal

Residents who do not want to spay or neuter their pets must obtain an Unaltered Animal License annually. The license is issued in the form of a metal tag that must be attached to the animal's collar to be worn at all times.

The Board will set the fee for an Unaltered Animal License at its June 4th meeting. Proceeds from the license will be used to help fund the county's spay/neuter voucher program, which has nearly 500 residents on a waitlist. “We will remain diligent in assisting owners with spay/neuter, vaccines, and other resources,” added Clements.

In addition to the new unaltered animal license, anyone found in violation of any animal related offense will be required to alter their animal.

6 innocent puppies who should never have been born are desperately in need of licensed rescue.
🐾Their mother was part of a litter that was conveniently dumped at a home the morning of one of our outreach trips last year. (This was planned as they knew we were on the way). There were 7 black puppies in that litter, and it took us over 2 months to secure placement for all 7.
Fast forward to today, and we’ve learned that the irresponsible owner kept a puppy out of that litter and at less than a year old, she gave birth to this litter of 6.😡 (Mama is a black lab mix, about 35lbs, And will be spayed next month).
🐾We are absolutely heartbroken and disgusted. To make matters worse, this is happening in Floyd county- where a spay/neuter ordinance passed back in 2023. Things are worse than ever because most are unaware of the ordinance and it is not enforced.

🐾These babies are 6-week-old females. They have received their first DHPP vaccine and have been dewormed. Please help us find rescue placement and give these puppies the chance they deserve!

3 pitiful female Boxer mix pups need rescue ASAP! A volunteer went to a home in a Bartow county to drop off food and supplies and found multiple dogs living in horrible conditions. When the owners said they would surrender these 3 starving pups, she didn’t think twice about taking them!! Pups are now safe but without a rescue plan in place. They look to be around 12 weeks and are very sweet. They have had a dhpp and have been dewormed. Can everyone please share for rescue help? Thank you!

URGENT! Rescue needed today to save this poor girls life!! She was dropped off at a veterinary clinic this morning to be euthanized only because she was dumped and has been a stray in an area where multiple dogs are suffering and getting hit by cars. We don’t have all of the details, but know she needs help NOW! (The person that dropped her off has tried relentlessly to find rescue help and help from local animal controls but can’t stand to see the suffering). Clinic says she looks to be a Mastiff mix, between 1-2 yrs, 66lbs and very sweet. She is heartworm neg., seems good with other dogs and She will be fully vaccinated today. Can everyone please share!!
