Attention Virginia Fire Departments: The grant application for firefighter cancer screening is open through the Virginia Department of Fire Programs!

The VPFF is proud that our legislative priority is now available to career departments. Cancer is the number one killer of firefighters. Utilizing screening examinations can help identify occupational cancer early when treatment is most effective. This is why the VPFF advocated for cancer screening funding for the last several General Assembly sessions. Please ensure your department is seeking this critical funding assistance and protecting your members.

Today, we celebrate one of the most important food groups in law enforcement history. While the rumors are greatly exaggerated, we can confirm that donuts continue to be an excellent source of morale, smiles, and the occasional breakfast on a busy shift.

Whether you prefer glazed, chocolate frosted, jelly-filled, or sprinkles, take a moment to treat yourself and support your local bakeries.

These statistics sum up themselves. The two leading causes of firefighter death’s are occupational cancer and cardiovascular disease.

More exposures meaning higher risk of cancer. More work time equals less time from family and added stress.

Apparently our live feed ended right before the winner was drawn. We apologize for anyone watching, but the winner is Stacey Rinker. As some of you may know, or may not, our local has had multiple individuals affected by cancer and this is just a small token of what we can do to give back to assist those members and others in their fight with cancer.
