And just like that, we’ve reached the end of our 6 Days of Knots!
Thanks for sticking with us and not getting tied up along the way. Whether you’re looping, bending, hitching, or reefing, you’re officially more knot-savvy than before. And our last and final knot—the Sheet Bend—is a true Senior Ambassador knot, perfect for bringing different ropes (and people!) together. Until next time—keep things tight, tidy, and never too knot serious 😉

Day FIVE! Sheepshank

The knot that shortens rope without cutting it.
Fun facts:
• Used to take slack out of a rope or bypass a damaged section
• Dates back hundreds of years in sailing history
• Looks fancy but can collapse if not under tension
• A true “problem-solver” knot

*Senior/Ambassadors will need to know this knot, it is not part of the knots competition for Cadettes.

Day FOUR: Square Knot

Classic, simple, and sometimes misunderstood.
Fun facts:
• Also called a reef knot
• Perfect for tying two ropes of equal size together
• NOT for heavy loads or safety-critical use
• If it slips, you probably tied a granny knot 😬

Day Three: Clove Hitch

Fast, simple, and endlessly useful.
Fun facts:
• One of the quickest knots to tie and untie
• Used to temporarily secure poles, posts, or tent lines
• Popular with climbers and sailors for quick adjustments
• Great… until it’s under constant tension (then it gets moody 😅)

Day TWO: Bowline

The knot that won’t let you down.
Fun facts:
• Known as the “king of knots”
• Creates a fixed loop that won’t slip or jam
• Scouts say: “The rabbit comes out of the hole, around the tree, and back down the hole” 🐇🌳
• Trusted for rescue, sailing, and climbing

Knots! Did you know our head knot Judge made some AWESOME how to videos? Brush up on your skills over the next 6 days with 6 days of KNOTS!

First up.... Tautline Hitch! The taut-line hitch is used to create an adjustable, sliding loop that holds tension under load but slides freely when slack, making it ideal for securing tent guy lines, tarps, and mooring. It eliminates the need to untie and re-knot lines to adjust tightness, allowing for easy tensioning on, for example, a tent rainfly.

Make sure you tie it the Girl Scout way!

If you’re prepping for the Skills Camporee, you need a rhythm that’s “G-O-L-D-E-N.” To perform high-quality CPR, you need to hit 100–120 compressions per minute.

Jungkook’s “Golden” sits right at ~114 BPM, making it the perfect internal metronome for the first aid station. 🩺🥁

The City of San Diego and GS showing us how its done!

The Challenge: Don’t just find the beat—keep it. We’ll be watching for depth, recoil, and that steady rhythm when you’re under the Camporee clock! ⏱️🏆

Show us how you’re practicing! Tag us in your drills. 🏕️🩹
