Woodsfield Civil War Living History Event

Woodsfield Civil War Living History Event 2013 Event: Aftermath! The Impact of the Battle of Gettysburg and the Events of 1863 On the Men and Women of Monroe County - June 8 & 9 - Woodsfield, OH.

This event follows the 150th anniversary of each year of the Civil War by portraying the role of Monroe County soldiers and civilians throughout the war. The past two years this event portrayed Monroe County companies of the 25th Ohio Volunteer Infantry and the Monroe County home-front and the events that occurred to them in 1861 & 1862. This year to commemorate 1863 we are showing the 25th OVI in

the aftermath of losing 81% of their force fighting at Gettysburg. We will be taking our 1858 house-museum and turning it into a home-turned-hospital after the battle. This won't be your Hollywood hospital scene, we have a lot of research going into this scenario and we are going to make it as real as possible. Authenticity is our main goal.To the reenactors we will be handing out character cards that provide info on an actual 25th soldier that was wounded at Gettysburg, establishing authenticity guidelines, and asking our event's participants to maintain a first person portrayal throughout public hours. In addition to portraying the aftermath at Gettysburg we will be presenting events that happened in Monroe County in 1863. There are several hands-on activities in the works and educational programming, thus far, includes talks on the history of the 25th OVI by historian Tom Edwards, information on the Army of the Ohio's flag preservation efforts by Bob Minton - Colonel of the Army of the Ohio, and lectures on Civil War medicine, the Sanitary Commission, and facets of 19th century life in Ohio. Public, please join our Event Page "Aftermath! The Impact of the Battle of Gettysburg and the Events of the 1863 On the Men and Women of Monroe County" for updates on the event! Reenactors, please join our Event Page "Aftermath!: A Gettysburg Hospital Scenario" to stay up-to-date on the event. For any other questions please message us, email us, or see our website.
