What do the numbers tell us? 📚

During Banned Books Week, we’re taking a closer look at the growing number of challenges to books and what that means for readers and libraries.

Public libraries play an important role in providing access to diverse ideas, information, and stories. They give readers the opportunity to explore the world beyond their own experiences and discover books that inform, challenge, inspire, and entertain.

The Friends of the Woodland Public Library believe in the value of a strong, accessible library—and in the importance of keeping readers connected to the books and resources they need.

Let books be. Protect the freedom to read.

October 4–10 is Banned Books Week 2026, a week dedicated to recognizing the importance of the freedom to read and access to information.

Books allow us to explore new ideas, understand different experiences, discover new perspectives, and simply find joy in a good story.

Public libraries help make that access available to everyone.

This Banned Books Week, we’re celebrating the role books and libraries play in literacy, learning, curiosity, and community.

Let Books Be. Protect the Freedom to Read.

We gave away MORE THAN 1,000 BOOKS! 📚🎉

What a week at the Yolo County Fair!

The Friends of the Woodland Public Library were thrilled to put more than 1,000 free books into the hands of fairgoers throughout the week.

That’s more than 1,000 opportunities for a child to discover a new favorite story, a family to read together, or a reader of any age to find their next great book.

We’re so grateful to everyone who stopped by our booth, browsed the books, volunteered their time, and helped us make this possible.

This is what community connection—and a love of reading—looks like. ❤️📚

Thank you, Yolo County Fair, and thank you to our wonderful volunteers for helping us make it such a success!

Here’s to the next 1,000 books! 📖

Volunteers Needed at the Yolo County Fair! 📚

The Friends of the Woodland Public Library are looking for volunteers to help staff our booth at the Yolo County Fair, August 12–16.

Volunteers work 2-hour shifts between 10:00 AM and 8:00 PM, greeting visitors and helping distribute free books to our community.

As a thank-you, each volunteer will receive a parking pass to use during their shift, and our booth is located in an air-conditioned building for added comfort.

Whether you can volunteer for one shift or several, your time helps us share the joy of reading and connect with our community.

To volunteer, please comment below or DM us and we will get you in contact with a FOL member!
