Le***an, gay, and bisexual adults are twice as likely to use e-cigarettes compared to straight adults. The stigma that many LGBTQ+ people face can cause extremely high levels of stress and may result in the development of unhealthy coping mechanisms. The to***co industry exploits the community by using tactics that hook LGBTQ+ people on its products, including advertising at pride festivals and LGBTQ+ community events.

On May 5th, the City Council of City of Winters, CA , unanimously passed the smoke-free Winters Downtown Social District! This is a fantastic move to protect both residents and visitors in beautiful Winters. Families can now enjoy their time during events without the concern of secondhand smoke.
Thank you to all the residents, youth, and City staff who advocated for a smoke-free social district.

Today we had a difficult Board of Supervisors meeting as we continue our work to balance the county's structural deficit ahead of our Budget Hearing on June 9th. I appreciated hearing from a number of county staff about their concerns with proposed position cuts and I empathize deeply with their hardships. I take seriously the responsibility before me as my colleagues and I work towards meeting our legal mandate to balance the county's budget.

In addition to the budget update, the board voted to advance an ordinance to add public health protections from smoking in and around multiunit residences in unincorporated communities in Yolo County.

The board also received a report from the Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District (SYMVCD) regarding the dangers of Mosquito Borne Diseases. SYMCVD also detailed their efforts to combat the spread of these diseases. You can learn more at https://www.fightthebite.net/
