Much like our sweet, cuddly, goofy girl Penny, Kodiak has grown up in rescue. He came to us when he was just 7 weeks old, and somehow, 121 days later, this ridiculously adorable little guy is STILL waiting for his forever family.

Kodiak is officially 4 months old, a Chihuahua mix, and currently weighs about 10.8 pounds of pure personality.

He wants to go EVERYWHERE with you. Going to the kitchen? Kodiak is coming. Going outside? Kodiak is coming. Walking six feet across the room? Excellent. Kodiak has been waiting his entire life for this adventure.

He is your tiny little shadow, happily trotting at your heels to supervise absolutely everything you do.

One of his absolute favorite things is playing in the sprinkler. Give this boy some water to splash around in and he is living his best life.

Kodiak prefers dogs around his size or a little larger. He can do well with bigger dogs with a proper introduction, but his forever family needs to understand that he is a little guy, even if Kodiak himself occasionally forgets that detail. He doesn’t want to spend his days being chased or steamrolled by a dog five times his size. He wants friends who will respect his tiny-but-mighty boundaries.

If there are children in his forever home, older children would be the best fit for Kodiak. Because he is small and still learning, he would do best with kids who understand how to be gentle, respectful, and mindful of his size and boundaries.

And this little man has been BUSY while waiting for his family. His incredible foster parents have been taking him to private obedience training, and he is doing AMAZING. He’s getting a wonderful foundation and proving that there is a very smart little brain underneath all that Chihuahua confidence.

Kodiak has had wonderful foster parents caring for him, training him, and showing him how great life can be. But a foster home was never supposed to be his whole story.

121 days is long enough.

Kodiak deserves to finally unpack his tiny imaginary suitcase, pick his favorite spot on the couch, and know that he is HOME. Forever.

Somewhere out there is a person who needs a sprinkler-loving, heel-following, pocket-sized best friend.

With over 100 applications, we were overwhelmed by the number of wonderful families hoping to give her a forever home!

Please don’t be discouraged if you weren’t selected. We only had one Penny, but we had SO many amazing applicants who could provide loving homes!

🚨 222 DAYS. HER WHOLE ENTIRE LIFE. 🚨

That is how long Penny has been with our rescue.

Penny is 222 days old—and she has been with us for every single one of them.

She was born into our rescue. We have watched her open her eyes, grow into those ridiculous ears, develop her hilarious little personality, and become the absolutely AMAZING 7-month-old, 15-pound dog she is today.

And somehow, she is still waiting for someone to choose her.

Not because she has behavioral issues.

Not because she doesn't like kids.

Not because she can't live with other animals.

Nope.

Penny has been passed over because she was “too big” at 14 pounds.

Because she wasn't fluffy enough.

Because she didn't look quite like what someone pictured in their head.

Meanwhile, Penny is over here casually being one of the most adaptable, ridiculously wonderful puppies we have ever had.

Young children? Penny says bring them on.

Autistic teenagers? She has done wonderfully.

Big dogs? Friends.

Little dogs? Also friends.

Cats? Yep, those too.

New environment? Give her a minute. She'll figure it out.

Penny has been exposed to so many different people, animals, and situations throughout her life, and she adapts beautifully. She is confident, social, affectionate, playful, smart, and genuinely just happy to be included.

She doesn't need everything to be perfect. She just wants to be part of it.

And can we talk about the hair?
Penny has this adorable fuzzy, slightly scruffy “I woke up like this” look—but without the high-maintenance grooming requirements people often expect from a fluffy dog.

Basically, she gets the bedhead aesthetic without the salon bill.

Her DNA is a wonderfully confusing combination of Mini Poodle, Cocker Spaniel, Chihuahua, Cattle Dog, and Shih Tzu. We aren't entirely sure how all of those ingredients resulted in Penny, but apparently the recipe works.

She's about 15 pounds now, which makes her a fantastic size: small enough to scoop up and cuddle, but sturdy enough to actually go places and do things with you.

And those ears?
Still enormous.

We assume they're used for satellite communication.

Penny loves to play, explore, learn, cuddle, and be involved in whatever her people are doing. She can hang with the dogs, interact beautifully with kids, coexist with cats, and then curl up next to you when the fun is over.

She's not the fluffiest puppy.

She's not the tiniest puppy.

She may not look exactly like the imaginary dog someone had pictured before they met her. Even though she is ridiculously cute.

But Penny doesn't need to be any of those things.

Because Penny is AMAZING exactly as she is.

We've watched this little girl since the day she was born. For 222 days, we have watched her grow into an incredible little dog, and we know the dog underneath those ridiculous ears and fuzzy hair.

Someone is going to get an absolutely phenomenal companion.
We just can't believe they haven't found her yet.

Penny is fully vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, spayed, and has been treated for parasites. She is on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. She is also crate trained and house trained.

Our rescue is not first-come, first-served. We carefully review applications to find the home that is the best match for each individual animal. Our goal isn't simply to get Penny adopted. It's to make sure the family who finally chooses her is the family who will choose her forever.

We are a completely foster-based rescue and do not operate a physical shelter. We are NOT the Yolo County Animal Shelter or the Yolo County SPCA.

Zeus is a 3-year-old AKC Chocolate Labrador Retriever who weighs in at a solid 75 pounds of pure Lab goodness!

This handsome boy has all the wonderful traits that make Labs such beloved family dogs. He’s friendly, outgoing, playful, affectionate, and always ready for his next adventure! Zeus absolutely LOVES his squeaky toys, and if there’s an opportunity to run, play, or chase something, you can bet he’ll be the first one out the door! He has plenty of energy and would thrive with an active family who enjoys spending time outdoors, going on adventures, and giving him lots of opportunities to burn off that classic Labrador energy.

And let’s talk about food! Like most Labs, Zeus is VERY food motivated. Labradors are known for their impressive appetites, and Zeus is no exception! He’s always happy to work for a tasty treat, which can be a wonderful advantage when it comes to training and teaching him new things. Just don’t expect him to turn down a snack anytime soon!

Zeus is great with kids, cats, and other dogs, although he isn’t a fan of flat-faced breeds. He would do best in a home where his canine companions are a good match for his personality and play style.

Meet Nacho, again! 16 Months in Rescue, 10 Months Waiting for His Forever Family

Some dogs find their forever families in days. Others wait weeks or months. And then there's Nacho, our 5-year-old Pomsky, who has been with our rescue for 16 months and available for adoption for the last 10 months.

And quite frankly, we don't understand why this incredible boy is still waiting.

Nacho has had people express interest, get his hopes up, and then back out for reasons that have absolutely nothing to do with him.

We've heard just about every excuse imaginable, including that he sheds.

Yes, he sheds. He's a Pomsky. He comes with a beautiful fluffy coat and a complimentary lifetime supply of dog hair. If you're looking for a dog who won't leave a little fur on your couch, Nacho would like to respectfully suggest a goldfish.

But underneath all that fluff is one of the sweetest, funniest, most loving dogs you could ever hope to meet.

Nacho is a love bug through and through. He absolutely adores people and wants nothing more than a family to call his own. He wants someone to cuddle with on the couch, someone who will tell him he's a good boy, and someone who will love him for exactly who he is.

He's the perfect combination of adventure buddy and professional couch potato. He loves getting outside, going for walks, and playing, but he's equally happy spending the afternoon snuggled up next to his favorite person. Preferably in the air conditioning, because Nacho has very strong opinions about the heat. Summer is overrated, and he would like to speak to whoever is in charge of the thermostat.

Speaking of opinions, Nacho has plenty of them! Like any self-respecting Pomsky, he isn't afraid to let you know how he feels. He's funny, expressive, and full of personality, and we promise life with him will never be boring.

Nacho has also had quite the transformation during his time in rescue. This handsome boy has lost over 20 pounds and is feeling better than ever! He's worked hard on his weight-loss journey, although he would like everyone to know that he still believes snacks should be considered a basic human right. He's incredibly food motivated and will happily remind you that he hasn't eaten in at least three business days.

Nacho enjoys playing with other dogs and has done well with cats. He would do best in a home without a dominant dog, as he prefers easygoing canine companions who are happy to play without trying to boss him around.

He loves people, enjoys being included in family activities, and has so much affection to give.

After 16 months in rescue and 10 months of waiting, Nacho deserves more than another person who changes their mind. He deserves a family who will choose him and keep choosing him.

We understand that adopting a dog is a lifelong commitment, and we want every family to be certain they're ready. But it breaks our hearts to watch this wonderful boy get passed over for things that are simply part of being a dog.

He sheds. He has opinions. He doesn't like the heat. He loves his snacks a little too much.

And he will love you with his entire heart.
Nacho isn't asking for a perfect home. He's asking for a family who will accept him for the wonderful, goofy, affectionate boy he is. Someone who will let him curl up beside them at the end of the day and remind him that he is finally home.

He doesn't know how many people have passed him by or how many times we've hoped that someone would finally give him the forever home he deserves.
He just knows that every day, he wakes up ready to love someone.

If you’re looking for 40 pounds of pure love wrapped up in the cutest little package, Petunia is your girl!

Petunia is a 2.5-year-old exotic bully with a heart as big as her adorable little face.

This girl is SUPER sweet and has never met a stranger she didn’t want to be friends with! She loves people, gets along great with other dogs, is good with cats, and absolutely adores kids. Basically,

Petunia is a social butterfly who thinks everyone she meets is her new best friend!

When she’s not busy making friends, you can usually find Petunia looking for someone to snuggle up with. She is a total cuddle bug and would happily spend her days soaking up all the love and attention you’re willing to give her.

Petunia is currently learning how to walk on a leash, and since she is very food motivated, a few tasty treats go a long way in helping her learn new things. She’s eager to please, especially when snacks are involved!

Meet Shadow! Your New Best Friend, Personal Assistant, and Professional Food Inspector!

At 3 years old and 75 pounds, Shadow is a handsome black Labrador Retriever with a heart as big as his appetite! And yes, his name is quite fitting because once he decides you're his person, you'll never have to worry about being alone again. Going to the kitchen? Shadow's coming. Heading to the bathroom? He'll be waiting outside. Sitting on the couch? Scoot over, because Shadow has some serious cuddling to do!

Shadow is your typical fun-loving Lab who believes life is meant to be enjoyed to the fullest, preferably with his favorite humans by his side. He's affectionate, playful, and always ready to participate in whatever you're doing. Whether it's heading out for an adventure, playing in the yard, or curling up on the couch after a busy day, Shadow is happy as long as he's included.

And let's talk about food! Like any self-respecting Labrador, Shadow firmly believes that every meal is the most important meal of the day. Breakfast? Absolutely. Dinner? His favorite. A snack you weren't planning to share? He would be happy to help you reconsider that decision. Labs are famously food-motivated, which can make training especially fun, although Shadow may occasionally try to convince you that he hasn't eaten in days. Don't fall for those puppy-dog eyes!

Shadow gets along well with dogs of all sizes, although he prefers male dogs who are smaller than he is. With a proper introduction, he does well with larger males, too. As with any dog, taking the time to make introductions comfortable and positive helps set everyone up for success.

At just 3 years old, Shadow is still a young Lab with plenty of energy and enthusiasm for life. He will need a family who understands that regular exercise, playtime, and mental stimulation are important for keeping a Labrador happy and healthy. A tired Lab is a happy Lab, and a happy Lab is usually one who is ready to snuggle up beside you after a good day of fun!

If you're looking for a loyal companion who will make you laugh, keep you active, supervise your every move, and love you with his whole heart, Shadow might just be your perfect match.

Rescues and shelters have ALL kinds of dogs! From purebred puppies to lovable mixed breeds, tiny lap dogs to gentle giants, there is a perfect companion for just about everyone!

Did you know?

According to Shelter Animals Count, California had approximately 690,000 dogs and cats entering shelters and rescues in 2024, based on reported and estimated statewide intake data. That is nearly 1,900 animals EVERY SINGLE DAY! These include strays, owner surrenders, purebreds, mixed breeds, puppies, and seniors.
