The California Department of Food and Agriculture is urging anyone who purchased grapevines from Costco stores in Northern California between April 21 and May 21 to contact their local agricultural commissioner after an invasive pest was discovered among the 13,000 vines shipped during that period.

To arrange pickup and receive guidance on prevention measures, please contact the department at (530) 666-8140 or email [email protected]

Grapevines shipped to California Costco (including Woodland) stores in April and May were found to be carrying the glassy-winged sharpshooter (GWSS), an insect capable of spreading a potentially lethal vine disease.

💧 Groundwater Update for Yolo County Growers

The Yolo Subbasin Groundwater Agency has adopted a groundwater sustainability fee to support implementation of the Yolo Subbasin Groundwater Sustainability Plan under California's Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA).

The fee will help fund groundwater monitoring, reporting, planning, and other activities related to long-term groundwater sustainability in the basin.

🐍🌱 Spotted on a recent farm visit near Winters: freshly planted tomatoes, beautiful mountain views, and one very confident snake crossing the field.

Moments like these are a reminder that farmland is more than a place to grow food. It provides wildlife habitat, open space, scenic beauty, and connection to nature. This farmland sure is worth protecting.

🌎🌱 Happy World Environment Day! 🌱🌎

Today we celebrate the land, water, wildlife, and natural resources that help create a healthy environment for people and nature alike.

Conserving farmland is an important part of stewarding our environment—healthy working lands support biodiversity, store carbon, recharge groundwater, provide wildlife habitat, and grow the food that nourishes our communities.

We're proud to work with farmers and landowners to conserve the landscapes that make Yolo County such a special place. Together, we're helping ensure these lands remain productive and resilient for future generations.

🫒🌿 Happy National Olive Day! 🌿🫒

Today we're celebrating the olive growers who help make Yolo County's agriculture so diverse and vibrant. Olive orchards are becoming an increasingly common sight across the county, contributing to our local economy and producing high-quality olives and olive oil enjoyed near and far.

In 2024, Yolo County harvested more than 8,000 acres of olives.

Thank you to the farmers who steward these orchards and the farmland that makes it all possible.
