The Archives had a special visitor this week! Shipley Walters stopped by for a quick visit to check in on the collection and say "hello" to the staff.
During the 1980s and 1990s, Shipley worked tirelessly to save the county’s historic records and, in collaboration with former Yolo County Librarian Mary Stephens, established a permanent storage facility for the growing collection. In addition, Shipley dedicated more than 4,300 hours as an Archives volunteer, was a founding member of the Friends of the Yolo County Archives, and served on its Board of Directors for many years. Shipley also wrote extensively about Yolo County history. When the Archives' renovation was completed in 2019 the building was rededicated as the Shipley Walters Center for Archives and Library Services in honor of her contributions to the Archives program.
Shipley's published books, articles, research notes, and other items are part of the Archives' Collection and can be viewed with an appointment.
