Anastasia Panagakos completes her final term as FCYA President this week.

In appreciation, Heather Lanctot, Archives & Records Center Coordinator, writes:

Anastasia Panagakos has served on the Board of the Friends of the Yolo County Archives since the fall of 2016 and has been president of the organization since 2018. Throughout her time on the Board, she has provided leadership and direction to the organization while supporting the needs of the Archives staff and volunteers.

During her time on the Board, Anastasia has worked with Archives staff to increase engagement among students and school-aged children with the collection. In 2017, she, along with the Archives Coordinator, coordinated transcription and translation activities for students at Monarca Elementary School in Davis. Anastasia also helped create engaging activities for kids at annual outreach events, including the Davis Farmers Market, the Yolo County Fair, and the 150th Anniversary of the train's arrival in Davisville. Anastasia introduced historic costumes, photo booths featuring enlarged historic photos, displays created by children in 4-H, and other hands-on activities to draw kids into the content. Anastasia has also worked hard to increase community awareness by tabling at outreach events, sitting on interview panels for Archive interns, and promoting volunteer opportunities at the Archives with her students at Cosumnes River College. In addition, Anastasia has highlighted the Archives' collection and services through social media posts and as the editor of the Friends' quarterly newsletter.

In addition to her work on the Friends of the Yolo County Archives Board, she has served on the Collections Committee to review the Yolo County Historical Collection and on the Historic Advisory Committee for the Yolo Branch Library.

Thank you, Anastasia, for the ten years in which you have graciously dedicated your time, leadership, thoughtfulness, creativity, and sense of humor to the success of the Friends of the Yolo County Archives. The Archives will forever be grateful for your support!

Ice production was complex yet profitable. By January 1936, the Union Ice Company needed its fuel oil department and eighteen trucks to keep up with demand. At the time, the company employed a 29-person team of managers, delivery drivers, engineers, and factory workers, all of whom received benefits and pension plans (Daily Democrat, January 7, 1936).
