Celebrating our 10th Year Club Anniversary
It all started in 2010 when Deborah Maresca and family returned to Colorado after a ten-year stench in Texas. They had moved so her husband could finish out his career with the airlines. While in Texas, Deborah and her three children starting riding bikes in the MS150 Houston to Austin. Deborah was on the steering committee for the Continental Cycling Classic and belonged to the Woodland’s TX Cycling Club. Her family rode every weekend and every chance they could.
Upon returning to CO, Deborah trained for the MS which went from Westminster to Fort Collins and back. After being told that she would have to go to Colorado Springs to train, Deborah thought it would be great to have a club in Woodland Park. After meeting with Parks and Rec, and Tony Perry from Park State Bank, she felt good about the idea. A kick off meeting was scheduled at Casa Granda Mexican Restaurant. “What if no one shows?” Deborah said to her supportive husband. “Then we will have a nice dinner and go home” was his reply. Twelve people showed up that evening, and there was a genuine interest in starting a c*cling club. Deborah got to work setting up EIN#, bank account, Articles of Incorporation and By-Laws with the help of William Moller and his law firm. Mountain Top Cycling Club (MTCC) was formed.
On January 4th, 2011 the club had it’s first club meeting: a logo was picked for the club, buying c*cling jerseys for the Middle School Mountain Bike Club that was led by David Kreighauser was the club’s first official good deed. Deborah Maresca the executive director was able to supply door prizes for every club meeting over the course of 10 years. At some meetings everyone got a door prize.
Over the next 10 years, the most membership the we had was 60 and the newsletter outreach of over 100 subscribers. Currently we have about 20 members. Mountain Top Cycling Club is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. We have no paid staff.
