BlasterCON is about the Cambrian explosion of special effects in the late 70's and the 80's, a marriage of groundbreaking technology and good old fashioned ingenuity and heart -- whose effects are still felt today.

- "kit-bashed" spaceship and vehicle models
- puppet aliens that push the envelope of what's real (and not)
- clothing and culture that is clearly human, but not tied to our cultura

Anything appropriate for a general Science Fiction & Fantasy audience is welcome at BlasterCON, but much of the programming will have a distinct "retro" attitude by design, and we will try to feature at least one major retrospective anniversary every year. Our goal is to educate future generations about just what it was that the old stuff got right, and why that is still relevant today. In particular, Cosplay is an excellent example of combining scratch-built, modified, and stock elements to transform artwork from something that exists only on paper and celluloid into reality that can walk right up to you and ask you to take its picture. Always present to some degree in Science Fiction and Comic Book shows, Cosplay has been introduced to a much wider audience in recent years by Anime conventions, and it will ALWAYS be a big part of BlasterCON.

Good things come to those who wait, and Voltron fans must have been awfully good this year because this summer they'll be getting a brand-new series in the form of DreamWorks Animation's Voltron: Legendary Defender on Netflix.
