🥕 From Farm to Table, From Heart to Community

At Farms for Life, we believe nutritious food is a human right — not a privilege. We’re honored to partner with Open Kitchen Redmond
, helping turn surplus local farm produce into warm, nourishing meals for neighbors in need.

🌱 What Open Kitchen Does
Every Wednesday from 5–6 pm at Redmond United Methodist Church, Open Kitchen offers a free, hot meal (with vegetarian options) in a welcoming, dignified space for all.

🤝 Why Our Partnership Matters
Farms for Life purchases surplus produce from small local farms and directs it to agencies like Open Kitchen. This collaboration:

Reduces food waste and supports local farmers

Ensures fresh, seasonal food reaches people who need it most

Strengthens our regional food ecosystem

🚨 Washington State is Losing Its Farms — Fast

https://www.seattletimes.com/business/agriculture/3700-wa-farms-shut-down-in-5-years-why/

Between 2017 and 2022, over 3,700 farms shut down in Washington. That’s nearly two farms a day.

Why? Rising costs, complex regulations, and overwhelming stress are pushing family farms out of business. And when a farm closes, it’s not just land lost—it’s a family, a livelihood, and a source of fresh, local food for our community.

🌱 Farms for Life exists to change this.
We connect local farmers directly with food-insecure families, keeping farms in business and nourishing our neighbors.

👉 How you can help:
• Donate to support struggling farmers.
• Spread the word—share this post.
• Choose to buy from and support local farms whenever you can.

Together, we can keep farms alive and food on the table. 💚

The stressors farmers face can take a toll, leading them to shut down their farms and leaving the next generation less interested in taking over.

We’re grateful to The Seattle Times for sharing Viva Farms' story and highlighting what’s at risk in our local food system due to frozen federal funding.

Our primary goal is to continue the 2025 farming season for the 35 farm business incubators with as little disruption as possible. 🌱💪 Hear from Farias Farm and Dear Table Farm in last Friday's front-page article!
