Artists Outside The Box Artists Outside The Box is a group of artists in the Greater Seattle Area. Our artists create works in paint, glass, ceramics, sculpture and jewelry.

We support each other in our individual art journeys and sell together at group shows. We represent a variety of quality art available for sale and display in the following categories: Painting, Photography, Sculpture, Wood, Glass, Mixed Media, Ceramics and Jewelry. Coming later this Summer, explore a variety of artworks and find that special piece to take home. Discover jewelry, ceramics, paintings, prints andcards created by the local artist group, Artists Outside The Box. Whether you're an art enthusiast or just looking for a fun weekend activity, this event is perfect for everyone.

The artists will also sell art supplies, frames, canvas some used and some newer from their own collection of supplies.

Come support our local artists and enjoy a day surrounded by beautiful art and live in music in a charming garden setting.

All are welcome. We can't wait to see you there!

Artist Spotlight: Deborah Knetzger

Deborah Knetzger is a Kirkland, Washington, artist and art educator working in painting and drawing media. She also makes collages with recycled and found objects, laser-cut pieces and encaustic.

She grew up in Wisconsin, received a BS degree in Fine Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Education, and has continued to participate in classes and workshops. She worked in design and fashion illustration.

She enjoys making art with people and has taught painting and drawing to students of all ages. Deborah has sold her art in shows and galleries and is a member of Artists Outside the Box, a group of artists who met while selling their art at the Kirkland Art Center store.

Artists Outside The Box Artist Spotlight: Diana Grant

Diana was born in Dallas, Texas to a military family.

As a child, she loved to draw and was encouraged by her teachers to attend the children’s art program at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

From 1968-1976 she worked in Ceramics. She started with hand building in Port Townsend, and learned throwing on the wheel in Seattle. She took college level ceramic classes for two years while she attended college in Bend, Oregon where she obtained an Associate of Science degree.

In 1976 she started the Architecture Program at the University of Washington, which included drawing lessons. Her instructor for line drawing was Philip Thiel. She also studied photography with Christian Straub.

Her focus in Architecture was on Environmental Design and after graduation worked in Solar Architecture and transitioned to Energy Conservation at Seattle City Light, where she worked for 25 years. During this career, she took art classes at the University of Washington in Scientific Illustration, and figure painting. She explored Water Color through classes at the Experimental College.

After discovering the Kirkland Arts Center she studied there from 2008 through 2014. She co-facilitated and practiced figure drawing for two years from 2012 - 2014.

From 2014 to 2016 she took classes at Gage with Charles Emerson (abstract and still life), Julia Ricketts (abstract) and Jim Phalen (portrait) and Mitch Albala, landscape.

In 2015 she started Plein Air landscape painting with the Evergreen Association of Fine Arts and continues today.

She is currently focused on working in her studio to develop her skills through exploring ideas and mediums in abstract and landscapes. Her current preferred medium in oil on canvas.

Artists Outside The Box Artist Spotlight: Joann Wadge

Joann’s sculptural ceramic artwork primarily
consists of hand building techniques. She takes a
piece of raw clay and gives it a textured existence.
Joann uses different glazes, stains, encaustic wax,
and firing techniques to achieve the colors of her
inspirations.

Metal, wood, fabric, and other materials
may be added to elaborate or exaggerate the
sculptural narrative. Each piece is unique and one of a
kind.

Joann juried into the 2016, 2018, 2020 Kirkland Art
Center Artists’ Exhibition. She won an award and an
honorable mention at the Kenmore Art Show 2017.
She juried into the Collective Visions Gallery show
2023 and the EAFA/MIVAL show. She won an award at
the EAFA show.

Joann won a best in 3D award at Molbak’s Sip and
Stroll juried Art Show 2023. She was a participant in
the Kirkland Artist Studio tour, Woodinville Studio
Tour, Wedgwood Art Festival, Fresh Paint Art
Festival, and the Schack Center Holiday Show.

Artists Outside The Box Artist Spotlight:
Sherrill Hull, Painter

Sherrill Hull is trained in Fine Art and works in multiple mediums.

For 25 years Sherrill painted murals in the Puget Sound area. Her latest mural was designed and created for the Port of Everett's 100 year Centennial .

Now in semi-retirement, Sherrill works on commissions and teaches.
