Freedom in Christ

“If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36)

As we celebrated the Fourth of July and the freedoms we enjoy as
Americans, we are reminded of an even greater freedom - the
freedom found in Jesus Christ.

Living in the “land of the free” often means having the ability to make our own choices and pursue our own path. But the freedom Jesus spoke of goes much deeper. When He came as the promised Messiah, He came to “proclaim freedom” (Luke 4:18) - freedom from the bo***ge of sin and the power of death. Through His sacrifice, we are set free to live in a restored relationship with God and to walk in His ways for our good and His glory.

Independence Day is a time to honor the sacrifices of those who have fought to preserve our nation’s freedom. In the same way, we should take time to remember and celebrate the ultimate sacrifice made by Jesus Christ. Through His death and resurrection, He secured a freedom that no earthly power can give, and no circumstance can take away.

As fireworks filled the sky and families gathered to celebrate, may we also rejoice in the freedom we have in Christ. Let us use that freedom to fulfill the mission He has given us: to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, and mind, and to love our neighbors as ourselves (Matt. 22:37-39).

Imagine the difference we could make in our homes, communities,
and nation if every follower of Christ lived out that calling each day.

Pastor Linda Boyadjis first entered into ministry part-time as a congregational pastoral assistant and a Chaplain Intern at The University of Minnesota Medical Center in the Newborn Intensive Care Department in 2009. After graduating from Bethel Theological Seminary and receiving her ordination as a Lutheran pastor, she began her journey in full-time ministry in 2015 as a Chaplain resident at Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital for Palliative Care. In 2016, she served as a Spiritual Care Director at St. Anthony Health & Rehab and Chandler Place Assisted Living. God led her to Prelude Ministries in 2021 where she currently serves as a Campus Pastor at our White Bear Lake, MN location. Pastor Linda is married to her husband George; they have three children and four grandsons. They also have a family dog who is a doodle named Basil who she often brings to visit the residents of White Bear.

When asked what she loves about her spiritual care role at Prelude Ministries, she said, "It is an honor to bring the love of the Lord through Word and Sacrament to His Children that live with dementia and other illnesses. Guiding the residents to lay the troubles from their previous decades at the feet of Jesus and peacefully enjoy the true love of the Lord is a blessing. Their transformation can be amazing. And while life can still be a struggle, they come to know they have Christ by their side walking with them along with the staff at Prelude."

For nearly 5 years Pastor Linda has been all things White Bear Lake having served residents, families, caregivers, and staff in both White Bear East and West. While we are happy that she will be celebrating this next chapter of her retirement, we will greatly miss her humorous interactions with residents, her thoughtful writings, and comradery as part of our Team! We pray God’s best for Pastor Linda as she enters this season of retirement!

Easier Said Than Done

We’ve all heard someone say, “Do not worry.” And we all know—it’s easier said than done. When we’re facing uncertain choices or imagining a future we never wanted, it’s natural to wonder, “Where is God in all of this?”

Walking the road of dementia with someone we love can feel especially heavy. Both of my parents struggled with dementia, and I know the helplessness that can settle in when good days and hard days come without warning. Yet even in that unpredictable journey, we can trust that God walks beside us every single day.

Scripture reminds us of His presence nearly one hundred times. Clearly, we are not the first people who needed reassurance. After crossing the Jordan, the Israelites were anxious about what lay ahead. Through the prophet Isaiah, God spoke these words of comfort:

“I have chosen you and have not rejected you. So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” — Isaiah 41:10

We live in a broken world, and navigating its challenges is never simple. Bringing our struggles to the Lord may not always calm the storm around us, but it will calm His child. Reaching out to God is like floating alone in a cold lake at night—and suddenly, out of love, He throws a life preserver within reach. The question becomes: will we take hold of His help, or try to stay afloat on our own? The choice is simpler than it seems.

Brothers and sisters in Christ, may the strength and peace of our Lord fill your hearts and bring you joy, even in the midst of struggle. Amen.

Prelude Ministries Welcomes Pastor John George to the Team!

Pastor John was born and raised in a Christian Missionary family in Kerala, India. He and his wife worked in a Christian organization in North India which trains students as Pastors and missionaries, runs schools for the underprivileged, projects for the marginalized and a Bible translation training center. Pastor John has had previous experience as an advertising professional before going into full-time ministry. He completed his M.Div. and is currently admitted into the Doctor of Ministry program at Bethel University!

He is now faithfully serving our incredible seniors at Prelude Homes & Services in White Bear Lake, MN!

We are so thankful for our dedicated volunteers who serve Christ by serving our seniors. Barber Matt provides haircuts at no cost to our seniors in honor of Jesus and in honor of his father who had Alzheimers. We thank you Matthew Soltren for your servants heart and the commitment of your time to bless so many!

Scripture Reflection: Luke 3:4–6

“A voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.’”
It continues with a powerful promise—that valleys will be filled, mountains made low, rough places smoothed, and that all people will see the salvation of God.

As we begin today, it’s worth noticing where this voice is calling out—from the wilderness. Not from a place of comfort or order, but from a place that feels uncertain, uneven, and sometimes overwhelming. In many ways, that can reflect the world our residents experience each day.
Memory care often feels like walking alongside someone in that wilderness. There are valleys—moments of confusion, fear, or sadness. There are mountains—barriers of memory loss, frustration, or behaviors we don’t always understand. There are crooked paths—conversations that don’t follow logic, emotions that shift quickly, days that don’t go as planned.

And yet, this scripture reminds us: our work is to help prepare the way. We prepare the way when we bring patience into a tense moment. We make paths straighter when we respond with calm instead of correction. We fill valleys when we offer comfort to someone who feels lost or afraid. We lower mountains when we meet resistance with understanding instead of force. We smooth rough places when we create a space of dignity, safety, and compassion.

This isn’t about fixing everything—we can’t remove every challenge our residents face. But we can shape their experience. We can make their path gentler, more peaceful, more human.

And there’s a deeper promise here too: “all flesh shall see the salvation of God.” That includes the people we serve—and it includes us. In the small, quiet acts of care you provide—helping someone eat, offering a reassuring touch, listening to the same story again—there is something sacred happening. There is dignity being restored. There is love being made visible.
So today, as you step into your roles, remember: your presence matters. The way you speak, the way you respond, the way you show up—it all helps prepare a path.

Prayer:
God, guide our hearts and hands today. Help us to be patient in the valleys, gentle with the mountains, and steady on the path. Let our care reflect compassion, dignity, and love in every moment. Amen.
