If you’re using cannabis for pain, sleep, anxiety, or anything—
your healthcare team needs to know.

You’re not doing anything wrong.
You don’t have to hide it.

This isn’t about judgment—
it’s about safety.

What you’re taking can interact with medications,
and your providers need the full picture to care for you properly.

If you’re not sure how to say it, try this:
“I use cannabis to help manage my symptoms, and I want it to be part of my care plan.”

You have the right to be honest about your health.
And you deserve care that meets you where you are.

The way we ask questions shapes the answers we get.

If patients don’t feel safe,
they won’t tell you everything they’re using—
and that impacts care.

Try this:
“I ask everyone this so I understand everything you’re taking and how it may affect your care.”

Normalize it.
Document it as part of medication and supplement history.

If a patient is using something for pain, sleep, or nausea—
that’s clinically relevant information.

Language matters.
It can either build trust… or shut it down.

When we remove judgment,
patients are more honest—
and that’s when we can actually care for them.

Part 3 is for patients

If your system doesn’t have a clear way to document plant use, there’s a gap in care.

Patients are already using it.
But many hospitals still don’t include it in medication reconciliation or assess for interactions.

That means missed information, missed education,
and missed opportunities for safer outcomes.

This isn’t about stigma— it’s about standardizing how we ask, document, and support patients.

Language matters.
And in healthcare, language becomes policy.

It can look like:
Repeating questions
Forgetting medications
Not drinking enough water
Confusion that turns into panic

And for families, this can become overwhelming fast.

It’s often not the memory loss itself—
it’s everything that happens because of it.

Some families look for ways to support these moments.
CBD may help reduce anxiety,
which can make it easier to calm and redirect.

It won’t fix memory—
but it may support the experience around it.

One of the hardest—and most dangerous—parts is confusion and disorientation.

Getting lost in familiar places.
Not knowing the time or where you are.
Struggling with simple directions.

These moments can turn into fear quickly—
and sometimes lead to falls or emergency visits.

If you’ve seen this, you know how scary it can feel.

Some families look for ways to help reduce that anxiety.
CBD may offer calming support,
while higher amounts of THC can sometimes make confusion worse.

Every person is different.
And more isn’t always better.

Supporting someone through this takes patience, awareness, and intention.

Dementia isn’t just memory loss.

It can look like anxiety, agitation, and sudden changes—
which can be really hard for families to navigate.

In those moments, your loved one isn’t trying to be difficult.
They’re often scared and overwhelmed.

Early support matters.
Some families explore options like CBD,
and in certain cases, low-dose THC—when used intentionally and with guidance.

You’re not alone in this.

As an ER nurse, this is something that comes up over and over again.

When cannabis is combined with alcohol, medications, or other substances,
the effects can hit harder—and feel unpredictable.

What we see:
• Extreme drowsiness
• Poor coordination
• Confusion or panic
• Dizziness or fainting

These effects stack in the body,
which is why the experience can feel overwhelming fast.

In the ER, treatment is supportive—
monitoring, fluids, and making sure you’re safe while it wears off.

The good news? It usually passes.
But in the moment, it can feel really scary.

If you want to stay safe:
Keep it simple. Don’t mix.
Start low. Go slow. Give it time.

And if you’re on medications or have health conditions,
talk to a healthcare professional first.

As an ER nurse, this is something we’re seeing more and more.

Repeated vomiting.
Severe stomach pain.
Dehydration.

And one detail that stands out:
feeling better with hot showers or baths.

A lot of people don’t connect the pattern—
so they keep using what once helped…
until it no longer does.

In the ER, treatment is supportive:
fluids, anti-nausea care, and monitoring for complications.

But the most important piece?
Recognizing the pattern early.

If you’re experiencing ongoing nausea—especially in the morning—
this is something to pay attention to.

More isn’t always better.
And not every body responds the same over time.
