Friends of Bound to Be…

We have been incredibly blessed with an outpouring of generosity over the last several years - we have received donations of hundreds and hundreds of wonderful children’s/youth books. Now it’s time to put those books to work and we need your help!

We are looking to clear out our inventory in the next 30 days. Please contact us through our page or through our website, www.boundtobe.org if you are connected to a local organization in the Twin Cities interested in taking a donation - and please share this with those in your local network as well. Every kid deserves a book to call their own, and we have hundreds of books ready to find their kids!

We have books for younger readers (including some Spanish language texts) and for teens/YA readers. We have a number of educational/reference titles and religious/faith texts too.

(Please note that due to our surplus of inventory we are not accepting donations at this time.)

Bound to Be is a nonprofit book donation drive to collect books for further give away to area family crisis resource centers throughout Washington County Minnesota. Rich, Robin, Ann and Clara Radke from Woodbury, Minnesota are behind the effort.

We have been quietly at it since our last update. 11,326 books have been rehomed with the help of countless donors. We are very much looking forward to joining with Valley Crossing Elementary for a third year during I Love To Read month in February. Thank you!!

Now onto 10,000. That first 1,000 was the hardest. Thank you to all that have supported them. Robin Moulin Radke

The girls were at 6,346 books in February with 8,000 as their new goal. Now it’s onto 10,000 after just reaching 8,100. Reading Is Power, but also is the amazing community that has supported them!

Valley Crossing Elementary rocks!! They’re including us among their activities recognizing I Love to Read Month! Thank you SO much for supporting our area children in need.

A huge thank you! These are just some of the 456 books Ann organized to be included in the SoWashCo CARES winter holiday packs. If they weren’t in new condition, they were new.

The recent outpouring of support from the community has been warming these last few days.

Ann logged more hours this past weekend than her dog, Lucy, could supervise.

Exceeded and still after it! And we have a specific need this time we’re requesting help meeting.

First the need - We’re looking for books to add to holiday gift packs for middle schoolers (13 girls & 17 boys) and high schoolers (13 girls & 19 boys). These are not the sort of books we have on hand, but we want to help. Anything you may be willing to donate would be greatly appreciated. You can connect with us through 651-442-7967, here on FB, or through our website. We’re hoping to pass these on before December 13th.

Now the exceeding - The girls have been so focused on the process that we really blew through celebrating the fact that they’re almost 500 books past their original goal of 5,000. The first 1,000 was the hardest...

Today was an absolute success at the Friends in Need School Supply Giveaway!!

We watched what was easily over 1,000 books find their way into some of the most polite, gracious and eager young hands! This is all that was left of 17 copier paper sized boxes of books, and left of the girls after few hours of gusting winds and a threatening sky.

Up to this point, the girls had not been able to witness the actual final handoff. They would make a number of drops with different appreciative staff, but scheduling never worked out.

Not only did the lights more than turn on just what they'd been busy about all these months, but Clara made it very clear to the organizers she was going to be back next year.

Thank you SO much for all of your kind donations! My biggest wish now is all of you could have witnessed firsthand the countless children's smiles and pride in their very own new treasures, your donations.

First off, we would like to say Thank You to all of our donors! We're excited to have been invited to participate in the Friends In Need Food Shelf School Supply Giveaway this coming Thursday, August 17 from 4:00-6:30.

We look forward to getting some of your kind donations into the hands of kids in need from Cottage Grove, Newport, St. Paul Park and Grey Cloud Island.

Now off to get ready for it.
