International Heritage is an organization that hopes to preserve and/or restore structures of cultural, heritage, and community significance. For years, a local site in Minnesota (Historic Fort Snelling) languished in disrepair and dilapidation. Over time, then vacant officers barracks and some out buildings experienced extreme degradation of the roofs. With most of the windows broken, the roof failing, the weather penetrated into the wooden structural elements and began to rot the wood. Floors, roof structures, and interior elements began to fail. Over an extended period of time, these buildings would have degraded to a point where they would have to be torn down (demolished). International Heritage, will work to preserve these structures by reroofing, replacing broken windows, and making repairs necessary to ensure that the structure is safe for entry. With some projects, International Heritage hopes to restore habitability to these structures so local communities can walk through them, thus gaining greater insight and strengthening the identities of local communities.
