Come join us Sunday, June 7, at 7 pm for a screening of the movie "The Voice of Hind Rajab" at Chinkapin.

Three months into the genocide in Gaza, Red Crescent volunteers received an emergency call from Hind Rajab, a 6-year-old girl trapped in a car under fire. The movie follows their attempts to keep her on the line until they can send an ambulance to rescue her.

This screening is made by special arrangement with Watermelon Pictures, a film production and distribution company committed to amplifying Palestinian and other underrepresented voices.

Join us at Chinkapin on Saturday, May 30, at 5:00 PM, for a workshop guided by Nashville-based painter David Onri Anderson () on foraging materials from nature to get colors, dyes, and pigments.

Participants will walk together and gather materials with colors and textures to make art with. Techniques on processing organic materials to make art and basic ethics and practices of foraging will be discussed.

This will be a fun and interactive experience in which people can take what they learn and apply this knowledge to their own artistic practices.

Join us for an official screening of the documentary Heightened Scrutiny on Friday, May 22, at 7:00 PM, at our pavilion. This is part of a state-wide screening tour of this documentary in Tennessee, the state that was challenged in this lawsuit.

This documentary follows Chase Strangio, the first trans lawyer to argue a case at the Supreme Court, as he—and many others—fight for access to gender-affirming healthcare for transgender adolescents.

Fearless civil rights lawyer Chase Strangio battles advocates for transgender adolescents’ access to gender-affirming healthcare, confronting not only the legal system but also a media landscape that distorts public perception and threatens the struggle for trans rights.

With the dangerous SCOTUS decision upholding the ban on life-saving healthcare, Heightened Scrutiny is an urgent call to action against bigotry and injustice.

Pictured above is Delanyo Mensah. She is one of our current resident artists at Chinkapin who will be guiding our next workshop “The Art of Becoming” this Saturday, May 9, at 6PM.

Delanyo is a multidisciplinary artist, curator, and community builder whose work bridges art, healing, and social transformation.

"The Art of Becoming" is a multi-sensory ritual workshop blending herbal tea-making, collage, and embodied reflection.

Participants will create their own tea blend based on intention, engage in intuitive collage as a form of storytelling, and move through a guided ritual that connects the body, imagination, and action.

Rooted in practices of presence and self-trust, this workshop invites participants to slow down, engage their senses, and explore becoming as a living, daily practice.

All are invited to join us for this wonderful workshop this Saturday!

This event is made possible with support from the Tennessee Arts Commission.

On Friday, May 15, at 6PM, artist resident STARLIGHT will mount an outdoor dance performance of walking, tree dancing, and nature communing in which we find ways to integrate and channel the natural world through human landscapes and movements.

This residency is an early research process of a new piece of ritual theater. We are excited to share with you what we find, and hangout and chat afterwards.

Inspirations: the great wheel of Time, Faggots and their Friends Between Revolutions, The Wizard of Oz, the number four, the color green.

And here it is! The newest timber frame at Chinkapin was raised yesterday afternoon. These wonderful people have been spending the last week carefully chiseling away at each piece of wood so that they would all fit perfectly together!

Thank you to everyone involved! It has been a fun and memorable workshop!

Join us tomorrow, Friday, April 24, at 1:30 PM, on the land to watch the raising of a beautiful timber frame for our new cabin. Our dedicated crew of builders will connect all the pieces together in this gritty, sweaty, muscle-bound affair!
