📕 The Giver -by Lois Lowry

Twelve-year-old Jonas lives in a seemingly perfect community where everything is carefully controlled and everyone has a specific role. When Jonas is chosen for a unique and mysterious position, he begins learning truths about his society that challenge everything he has ever known. Today is National Don’t Give Up Day!

Some of the most famous books exist today all because someone refused to give up. Writers face rejection. Inventors fail. Artists start over. Students struggle. People change direction, time and time again. Today is a little reminder from your local library that you don’t need to have everything figured out... You just have to keep turning the page. 😉

Take a moment today to reflect on something you’re happy you didn’t give up on. -Or something you gave up on that you are now motivated to revisit. We hope every rejection you face brings you one step closer to a wonderful new beginning! ❤️

Recommended by Teresa: 1929 by Andrew Ross Sorkin

A nonfiction account of the booming 1920s stock market and the forces that ultimately led to the historic 1929 crash. Told almost like a financial thriller, it follows the powerful bankers, investors, politicians, and ordinary Americans caught up in an era of extraordinary optimism, speculation, easy credit, and risky margin investing. Sorkin explores how genuine economic and technological growth became intertwined with excessive leverage, market manipulation, weak regulation, and the widespread belief that prosperity could continue indefinitely. Rather than simply explaining that the market crashed, the book takes readers inside Wall Street as warning signs emerge and financial leaders struggle to understand and control an increasingly unstable market. It also examines how the collapse damaged businesses, families, public confidence, and the broader American economy, helping set the stage for the Great Depression.

As a monarch caterpillar gets ready to pupate, it will stop eating and hang upside down in a “J” shape. During this time, it anchors itself to a silk pad with tiny hooks at the tip of its abdomen (the cremaster). Over the next 12–24 hours, the caterpillar’s body shortens, and its skin begins to split behind the head. By wriggling free, it sheds its final caterpillar skin, revealing the green chrysalis underneath. Although many people think the chrysalis is made of silk, it is actually the caterpillar’s own hardened outer skin (exoskeleton)! From the moment the skin begins to split until the chrysalis is fully formed typically takes about 10–20 minutes.
