Last week, The Phoenix Phoundation had the joy of attending Volare’s Kentucky Derby-themed fundraiser—an unforgettable evening filled with bold hats, beautiful hearts, and a shared commitment to breaking the cycle of domestic violence.

It was a blessing to connect with like-minded advocates who are just as passionate about healing, justice, and community transformation.

Volare is doing meaningful work in Washington, D.C., and we’re excited about the possibility of having the same impact throughout Virginia and beyond.

Most believe abuse is only abuse if it’s physical. However, abuse begins in many other forms. Oftentimes, by the time it becomes physical…it’s too late. 🖤

🖤 Abuse isn’t always obvious — it’s often hidden in patterns of control, manipulation, and emotional harm. Emotional abuse can be difficult to pinpoint, often due to the fact that the abuser often hides it very well by being subtle, lowering your self-esteem, and even by making you think that *you* could be the abuser or that their behavior is completely justifiable.

🖤 If any of these signs feel familiar, know that it’s not your fault, and you don’t have to face it alone. You deserve safety, love, and respect in all your relationships.

Last month, The Phoenix Phoundation held its very first event on the Woodbridge Campus of Northern Virginia Community College. This Community Fair exposed students and community members to a variety of post-secondary education and vocation opportunities.
