Legal abuse is a form of post-separation control where abusers manipulate the court system to harass, intimidate, or financially drain survivors. Common tactics include filing excessive or frivolous motions, delaying court proceedings and making false accusations—all intended to overwhelm and destabilize the survivor.

The Phoenix Phoundation strives to provide pro bono legal services and support to victims of abuse and domestic violence.

To raise awareness of financial and legal abuse, support victim-centered legislation advocacy, and support future public servants who support our mission, we established the Social Engineering Fund. 🖤

As Charles Hamilton Houston stated, “A lawyer is either a social engineer or a parasite on society … A social engineer [is] a highly skilled, perceptive, sensitive lawyer who [understands] the Constitution of the United States and [knows] how to explore its uses in the solving of problems of local communities and in bettering conditions of the underprivileged citizens.”

At The Phoenix Phoundation, we believe “social engineers” are a necessary component to remove legal and legislative barriers that harm victims of domestic violence and legal abuse. Therefore, today, we establish The Social Engineering Fund to support the legal education of future lawyers and policy advocates committed to victim advocacy and using the legal system to drive social change for a better society.
