Today was all about HEART.
We started at home by filling up a U-Haul with everything we needed to build desks. Then, Chris and I headed north to Woodcrafters Furniture and Cabinetry in Woodbridge. The owner, Lance helped cut all our wood and set us up with an indoor space to construct, sand and paint. Volunteers (aged 5-?) were scheduled to work from 2-4. They willingly worked until 4:45 with smiles under their masks.
Before we started, a customer came into the store. Lance told him what we were doing. This kind customer left money to buy 10 pizzas for all the volunteers.
Around 5:30, Chris and I loaded into the U-haul and headed to Dumfries Elementary School. We dropped off 25 desk lamps, 25 chairs, 12 book shelves and the first few completed desks.
The other desks that needed time to dry were left at Woodcrafters. Instead of us having to go back and get them, Lance offered to deliver them to school later in the week.
My heart was warmed by the generosity and kind heartedness of the families, friends and Rotary members who gave 3 hours of their Saturday to help build desks for our students. There aren't enough thank you"s in the world for me to say.
This is HEART.
