๐ŸŽ‰ WEโ€™VE BEEN NOMINATED! ๐ŸŽ‰

We are incredibly honored to share that Down Home Comfort Cafรฉ has been nominated for a 2026 Make Your Mark Award in the Destination Experience category! ๐Ÿ†โœจ

This recognition celebrates the businesses, organizations, and individuals making a meaningful impact across Prince William County, and to be recognized in the place we proudly call home means so much to us.

To every customer who has walked through our doors, brought family and friends, celebrated special moments with us, ordered catering, shared a post, left a review, or simply told someone, โ€œYou have to try Down Home!โ€ THANK YOU. โค๏ธ Your support has helped turn our intimate 21-seat cafรฉ into a true destination for soul food, hospitality, culture, and community.

And to our incredible DHCC team, this nomination belongs to you, too. Every plate prepared, every guest welcomed, every long day, busy weekend, and behind-the-scenes moment contributes to the experience our customers have when they walk through our doors. We appreciate your hard work, heart, and commitment to what weโ€™re building together.

Chef Darius O. and Wakeena Dickens started this journey with a vision to create more than a restaurant. We wanted to create a place where people could come together, feel at home, experience great food, and leave with a memory.

To know that impact is being recognized in Prince William County is truly special.

From our family to yours, THANK YOU for continuing to believe in Down Home Comfort Cafรฉ.

Weโ€™re honored. Weโ€™re grateful. And weโ€™re just getting started. โค๏ธ๐Ÿฝ๏ธโœจ

Everyone has a story. Letโ€™s help them tell it. โœ๏ธ

At Poetry Ending Poverty, we are accepting submissions 10/10 ๐Ÿ—“๏ธfor our Lyric to Legacy: Community Voices Anthology! We are collecting poems, short stories, and reflections from youth and adults across our community to be featured in a book for charityโ€”and we need YOUR help to spread the word.

If you lead a community group, this is a completely FREE, ready-made activity for the people you serve:

* ๐ŸŽ For Teachers & Students: A perfect creative writing assignment or extra credit opportunity that gives students a chance to become published authors!
* ๐Ÿง  For Counselors & Therapists: A powerful therapeutic tool to help clients process their feelings, build resilience, and find their voice.
* ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ For Faith-Based & Religious Groups: An engaging way for your congregation or youth group to reflect on themes of hope, gratitude, and community service.
* ๐Ÿค For Mentors & After-School Programs: A ready-to-go, meaningful session activity. Sit down with your youth, pull out a prompt, and write together!

Letโ€™s empower our community through the power of words. Up to two entries are allowed per household, and selected authors will receive an exclusive invitation to our "surprise" Party! ๐ŸŽ
