Sometimes the best opportunities to build language aren't planned at all. They're simply right in front of us.

Look around with your child. What do you see?

Talk and sign about the trees. The mountains. The sky. The colors. What's near? What's far away? Which mountain is tallest? What might be on the other side?

You don't need a lesson plan to build language. You need shared experiences, curiosity, and opportunities to communicate.

Everyday moments can become language moments.

Those small conversations add up.

You don't need a lesson every time you want to support language.
You just need opportunities to connect, communicate, and keep going.

🤟 It’s Okay to Make Mistakes

One of the biggest fears people have when learning ASL is making mistakes.

Here’s the good news:
Mistakes are part of learning.

Keep signing.
Keep asking questions.
Keep learning.
Keep showing up.

Confident communicators aren’t people who never make mistakes. They’re people who keep practicing, stay open to learning, and keep communicating.

You don’t have to wait until your ASL is perfect to use it.
Progress happens one conversation at a time.

💬 Communication Builds Confidence

Did you know?

When children have opportunities to communicate throughout their day, they gain so much more than language.

They build confidence.
They learn to express their ideas.
They ask questions.
They solve problems.
They build relationships.

Every conversation—during play, at mealtime, in the car, or while getting ready for the day—is an opportunity for a child to learn that what they have to say matters.

Communication is one of the strongest foundations we can give children for lifelong learning, connection, and confidence.

🐾 Happy National Dog Day! 🐶🤟

Communication happens in all kinds of ways — and sometimes our dogs are paying attention, too!

Today, Patrick and Scout are helping us celebrate with three ASL signs:

🐶 DOG
🪑 SIT
🎾 PLAY

Watch what happens when Patrick signs SIT to Scout. He knows exactly what Patrick is asking him to do! ❤️

Everyday moments like playing with the family dog can create natural opportunities for children and families to use ASL. Language doesn't have to be practiced only during a lesson — it can become part of the things you already do together every day.

And we're pretty sure Scout's favorite sign of the three is PLAY. 😂🐾
