The CA Assembly budget would bring back the $2,000 asset test — meaning if recipients have more than $2,000 in the bank, they LOSE Medi-Cal, even if they’re low-income. So seniors and people with disabilities who saved a little for emergencies would be punished just for being responsible. California previously eliminated this cruel rule. We can’t let it come back. • Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas (916-319-2029) – urge them to reject this proposal.
The Assembly’s suggested delay in implementation until July 1, 2027 does little to mitigate the harm of this cut. A $2,000 asset limit for Medi-Cal is simply a cruel requirement that unfairly penalizes older adults and people with disabilities.
