It's the FIRST YEAR RESCUEVERSARY for my former foster GSP- ROSIE!!!!!!!! What a sick camper she was-- coming from the Yorkville shelter breaking with terrible kennel cough and eventually testing positive for Lyme disease. I was so worried that the KC was going to affect my heartworm positive dogs and Daisy especially with her possible Blastocycosis-- but Rosie needed me and I knew how to keep her going when she stopped eating.
This time last year I didn't know my meniscus was torn so having to put Rosie between my knees to force feel was rough- so so so hard. But my persistence paid off and when she started to eat on her own, and the puss from her nasal passages started to go away, I knew she was going to be OK. Once she was stable, she moved to Wren's and not long after she moved to foster to adopt with Samantha and her family. I get the best updates on this special girl. She was such a good sport when I dressed her up in a purple tutu for Halloween!! I am so glad we were able to help this throwaway girl get the care she needed and find her forever home. November 2025: On October 14th, I received an email from the Kendal County Animal Control in Yorkville, IL. The shelter was full and she needed to get out ASAP. A witness saw her dumped out of a car on River Road in Yorkville. Her nails were overgrown, she had possible injuries to her body, including some pads torn from running on the road. She had also suffered from additional neglect as evident in the patches of hair loss on her back. She also has stains on her tail and back end from laying in damp stray- probably from being in a kennel outdoors.
It was further discovered that Rosie and her sister had been listed on a Sandwich page for free and were given away and Rosie was possibly 6 years young.
I networked Rosie for help as we didn't have any open fosters and she was breaking with kennel cough. The last thing I needed was another sick dog in the home, but Rosie needed us and donations came in for her care. It was a challenging few days as Rosie was a very sick dog and blood work showed she was anemic, had elevated white blood cells and she was also infected with Lyme disease. After a few days of TLC, Entyce appetite stimulant, and force feeding, Rosie started to get better and the day she starting eating on her own was such a relief. We even had a fun Halloween dress up pawty.
A week after being at IBR HQ, she moved to a new foster where she has become great friends with 2 year old River the GSP. Her foster mom Wrenn- is working on some basic manners and Rosie is showing that she is a very smart biddable GSP. She is now ready to find her Foster to Adopt home. She is gun shy for sure-- could be the reason why she was dumped, so we are only looking for a pet quality home. We are also only looking for a Foster to Adopt home in the Chicago area as I will need to repeat her blood work to check her anemia prior to her spay in January. Rosie is having a great time playing with River and she was happy around all my dogs, so we'd like her to have a buddy in her new home. She will also need a safe fenced in yard-- NO EXCEPTIONS.
