Hello everyone, this fb page is for Iridescent Stretch Glass and the Stretch Glass Society. It is not for all your other thrift shop.finds. please do not post anything except stretch glass here unless you are promoting a show or auction or museum that includes stretch glass. Postings by other glass clubs will be accepted but please try to post some stretch glass from time to time. If other finds or political trap or other stuff is posted here it will be removed and the person posting will be snoozed or blocked.

just acquired these Wistaria Fenton Candleholders with gold decoration. I don't believe I have seen the Wistaria ones with the gold decoration. We find ruby, topaz, blue colored ones from time to time. Maybe there are other colors with the gold decoration? if you have other colors please share them.

this Periwinkle stretch glass JIP sold in the David Rash auction at Randy Clark's Dexter City auction recently. it appears to be a sample or a whimsy. it has the orig price tag from the Fenton giftshop. the jack in the pulpit top is very nicely iridized and reshaped creating a nice stretch affect.

Pulling out some of my "giants" and "dwarfs" of stretch glass for our Stretch Glass Society call out tomorrow night (May 9). This will be a Zoom meeting, show-and-tell format. Here are some images of the glass at the same relative sizes. A 15-inch diameter, wide panel platter in Ruby Ice (red stretch) and a wide panel mayo underplate (6-inch diameter) in Green Ice (teal stretch). In the comport category, I'm comparing a U.S. Glass #179 comport with the little Fenton individual nut cup. Neat that they have very similar shapes, but very different sizes. Search your cabinets for your giants and dwarfs to share. SGS members received a link to the Zoom meeting last week by email. Other collectors that want to join us should visit our web page and send me a request to join and I'll send you the link.

Stretch Glass is a captivating type of glass, often described as iridescent, and was prominent between 1916 and the early 1930s. While exploring this piece of history, it is interesting to find the roots of this shimmering effect. Basically, molten glass was blown into molds and then dipped in a metallic salt solution while hot, creating that shimmer. Reheating caused the glass to expand faster than the metallic coating, fracturing it into those mesmerizing "stretch marks."

A fascinating fact emerges when we delve into the etymology of "stretch glass." This term, now popular among collectors, was coined by Rose Presznick, an expert on carnival glass. Prior to it, manufacturers used "crizzled" or "crackled surface" to describe this unique glass design. Presznick, recognized the distinctive patterns on the iridescent with little or no pattern, aptly naming it the "stretch effect." This term quickly resonated with collectors, which became the universally adopted recognition for this attractive type of glassware
