Congratulations to the thirteen Huron Pines team members on completing the Wilderness First Aid course at Greenwood Foundation!
Thirteen members of our team completed a Wilderness First Aid course last month, learning skills that will help them deal with medical emergencies while in the field.
Led by Great Lakes Wilderness Emergency Response Training, the two-day course covered wound care, splinting techniques for broken bones, how to identify and treat heat stroke, and even how to build a stretcher from clothing and tree limbs. Many of our staff routinely work in remote areas -- and all are active outdoorspeople -- so having these skills is highly useful in an emergency.
Joining us were our colleagues from Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy and Anne Gilpatrick, a nurse and mom of Senior Restoration Technician Molly Gilpatrick. Special thanks to instructor Steve Huisman and to Greenwood Foundation in Wolverine for hosting our class.
