📢 PUBLIC NOTICE – ROOSEVELT COUNTY FIRE SAFETY 🔥

Roosevelt County is experiencing a very dry spring, making fire safety and awareness crucial for everyone.

The first step in preventing wildfires is using the County Burn Permit System. This system helps notify the public, fire departments, law enforcement, and dispatch of any planned burning within the county.

The decision to open or close the burn permit system is not taken lightly. It is based on several factors, including weather conditions, fuel conditions, and fire department availability.

Roosevelt County fire departments are volunteer-based, meaning firefighters must leave their jobs and families to respond to fires. Burning without using the burn permit system wastes valuable county resources and time responding to preventable incidents. Individuals who burn without a permit may also be held personally liable for suppression costs and damages.

For burns on Fort Peck Tribal lands, please contact the BIA Office for a burn permit.
