Wolcott Land Conservation Trust A Non-profit Land Trust Helping to Preserve Wolcott, Connecticut

Incorporated in 1985, the Wolcott Land Conservation Trust has spent nearly three decades preserving and overseeing open space in Wolcott, Connecticut. We are a non-profit organization run by an entirely volunteer staff that is sincere in its conviction that preserving Wolcott’s land and water provides significant and lasting benefits to the entire community. The first of our land holdings was Hitc

hcock Lake, a body of water that we received in 1986 and which spans over 100 acres in the southeastern corner of Wolcott. In the years that have followed, we’ve acquired several more parcels throughout town, including the 64-acre Finch Brook Preserve through which we’ve cut a fine trail that winds for over two miles in quiet, hilly woodlands. We are pleased to say that we’ve expanded the holdings of the Wolcott Land Conservation Trust to encompass more than 200 acres of land and water throughout town. But we also know that, with the support of our like-minded members and the generosity of donors, we can spend the coming years doing even more to preserve the natural places of Wolcott before they succumb to development.

A letter written by Tom Tella, President of the Wolcott Land Conservation Trust, was published in the Republican-American newspaper today making a sound case for voting YES on an upcoming November 6 ballot question that would better protect our state parks and forests against rushed land transactions drawn up in backrooms for the benefit of the politically connected.

In Tom’s words: “I encourage my fellow Greater Waterbury residents to vote yes on Question No. 2... to protect our public lands”.

Keep writing those letters to the editor! Help inform the voters in Connecticut about how important this is! Read this letter at http://www.rep-am.com/opinion/letters-opinion/2018/09/18/ballot-question-on-parks-forests-deserves-yes-vote/

Be sure to check out the article on WLCT's Finch Brook Preserve written by Hartford Courant journalist Peter Marteka just this past August. We're so very pleased that he enjoyed his hike!

A visit to Finch Brook Preserve, a 60-acre preserve, owned by the Wolcott Land Conservation Trust with a 2.6-mile Connecticut Forest & Park Association Trail running through it. One of the most interesting features? Framed poems on assorted trees within the preserve.

Here's an interesting new report which lays out an ambitious vision for land preservation in Connecticut and New England as a whole.

WLCT, just as so many land trusts throughout Connecticut, is working hard to keep open spaces open and wildlands wild!

The W&W regional vision was inspired by and evolved from Wildlands and Woodlands: A Vision for the Massachusetts Landscape, released in 2005. New report coming September 2017 with broadened vision for the New England landscape! W&W Update (2012) Vision for the New England Landscape (2010) Four-pag...
