Liberty, Squared and Circled
A Masonic Meditation for Independence Day
Today, we do not merely gaze skyward at the burst of fireworks— We bow inward to the Light that liberty ignites. We pause not for spectacle, but for principle. Not for noise, but for meaning.
We gather as Freemasons—workers in Light, Bound by cable-tow not to a country alone, But to the eternal truths it aspires to: Freedom carved by conscience, Justice balanced by mercy, And labor infused with love.
Freedom, to us, is more than a civic word— It is a sacred trust:
The Square demands we act justly.
The Compasses teach restraint in all things.
The Level reminds us we are equal in dignity.
The Plumb whispers that truth must ever run deep.
As Masons, we know: Liberty is not unbridled license— It is the harmony between duty and choice. It is the cornerstone laid with care, The ashlar refined through toil. It is virtue in action, And reverence in silence.
So today, we do not simply honor a nation born of rebellion— We honor the inner revolution: That men might govern themselves wisely, Raise their spirits as they raise their walls, And walk upright before the world and their Maker.
This day belongs to those who labor in obscurity— Who lay unseen stones with excellence, Who bind society not with laws alone, But with honor.
Happy Independence Day, From every Lodge where light is sought, Let freedom not merely ring— Let it be squared, leveled, and plumbed In every heart that dares to build.
