Grapevine. Winds gusting around 45 mph, but as high as 60 mph
in the highest elevations.

* WHEN...From 4 PM Wednesday to 10 AM PST Thursday.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible with
slick and snow-covered roads. Very strong winds could cause
extensive tree damage in some areas. Cold wind chills as low
as 20 below zero are possible in the highest elevations that
could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30

..A FIRE WEATHER WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR THE KERN COUNTY MOUNTAINS FROM LATE SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY EVENING FOR GUSTY WINDS AND VERY LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES.
Critical fire weather conditions are expected in the Kern County
mountains from late Saturday night through Monday evening. The
onset of northeasterly winds late Saturday night will result in
rapid drying, with widespread minimum relative humidity values of
10 to 15 percent Sunday afternoon and Monday afternoon. The
strongest winds are anticipated Sunday afternoon, with sustained
northeast winds of 20 to 30 mph, with frequent gusts near 40 mph.

The National Weather Service in Hanford has issued a Fire Weather
Watch, which is in effect from late Saturday night through Monday
evening.

* AFFECTED AREA...The Kern County mountains.

* WIND...The strongest winds are expected Sunday afternoon, with
sustained northeast winds of 20 to 30 mph, with frequent gusts
near 40 mph.

* HUMIDITY...Minimum relative humidity values of 10 to 15 percent
both Sunday afternoon and Monday afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.
Outdoor burning is not recommended.

The Valley Air District is updating an Air Quality Alert issued
on September 20, 2023, to include additional counties due to smoke impacts from wildfires in northern California and the Redwood Fire in Tulare County for San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Merced, Madera, Fresno, Kings, Tulare and Kern Counties.

This Air Quality Alert is in effect until the fires are
extinguished.

Exposure to particle pollution can cause serious health problems,
aggravate lung disease, cause asthma attacks and acute
bronchitis, and increase risk of respiratory infections.

Residents are advised to use caution as conditions warrant.
People with heart or lung diseases should follow their doctor`s
advice for dealing with episodes of unhealthy air quality.

Additionally, older adults and children should avoid prolonged
exposure, strenuous activities or heavy exertion, as conditions
dictate.
