Concluding our CBS/WBZ Boston Mental Health Awareness Month PSA series, today we’re focusing on youth and young adults 💙

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), one in seven young people ages 10 to 19 experience a mental health condition globally. Supporting young people in their mental health journeys is essential, and providing tools, resources, and space for self-advocacy can make a lasting impact.

NAMI Massachusetts offers two youth and young adult focused initiatives: NAMI On Campus, which supports mental health clubs on high school and college campuses, and the NEXTGEN Youth Advisory Council for 18 to 25-year-olds, uplifting diverse youth voices across the state ✨

Thank you for following along with our Mental Health Awareness Month series, and thank you to CBS/WBZ Boston for your partnership 💙

Concluding our AAPI Month Spotlight Series, today we’re highlighting the Asian Mental Health Collective (AMHC) 💙

AMHC was founded in 2020 by community members living with mental health conditions, along with therapists and advocates who wanted to create a space for Asian communities to openly discuss mental health. What began as a viral Facebook group and in-person meetups has since grown into a powerful online community centered on connection, support, and healing.

AMHC provides culturally informed therapy resources, peer-led support groups, and learning communities that recognize and honor the diversity within Asian identities and experiences. Since its founding, the organization has expanded beyond destigmatization efforts to help cultivate a stronger culture of care within Asian communities.

AMHC also created the first and largest Asian therapist directory and hosted the first online Asian Mental Health Conference ✨

Thank you, AMHC, for creating such an important space for people to connect, share their experiences, and explore the intersections of identity and mental health.

We’re continuing our CBS/WBZ Boston Mental Health Awareness Month PSA series, and today we’re focusing on stigma 💙

Stigma remains one of the biggest barriers preventing people from getting the mental health care they need. On average, there is an 11-year delay between the onset of symptoms and the start of treatment, and stigma plays a major role in that gap.

Stigma thrives in silence, but open conversations and sharing experiences in safe, supportive spaces can help foster connection, understanding, and healing ✨

Stay tuned for more!

Moving right along with our CBS/WBZ Boston Mental Health Awareness Month PSA series, today we’re highlighting the importance of social connection 💙

Mental health conditions can sometimes cause us to withdraw from the people around us, but meaningful social connection can play a powerful role in supporting our wellbeing. Staying connected to friends, family, and community can help stabilize mood, provide comfort during difficult moments, and remind us that we are not alone.

Supportive relationships can also help us navigate crisis, build resilience, and continue healing throughout our mental health journeys ✨

Stay tuned for more PSAs throughout the week!

Continuing our WBZ / CBS News Boston Mental Health Awareness Month series, today we’re focusing on self-care 💙

Getting a good night’s sleep, eating a balanced diet, and staying active through moderate exercise are all important forms of self-care that can support mental wellness. At the same time, it’s important to remember that everyone’s mental health journey looks different, and self-care should reflect what works best for you ✨

Whether it’s finding joy in your favorite activities, staying connected with loved ones, or allowing others to support you, self-care is about creating routines and connections that help you feel grounded and fulfilled.

Stay tuned for more throughout the week! 🌟

NAMI Massachusetts Executive Director Eliza T. Williamson was honored this past week by the American Association of Suicidology (AAS) in St. Louis, where she received the Transforming Lived Experience Award. Eliza is alongside Jenna Baker, CEO of AAS, and Amy Sagen, Chief Transformation Officer at AAS.

In her acceptance speech, Eliza reflected on her journey into mental health advocacy, sharing:

"Fifteen years ago, I saw a flyer in a local coffee shop for a program run by NAMI. And what I discovered was a grassroots movement built on a radical idea: that the people most impacted by mental health — those of us living with conditions, and the families who love us — belong at the center of conversations about system reform. Not at the margins. At the center. I've really never looked back."

Congratulations, Eliza, on this well-deserved recognition and thank you for your leadership, advocacy, and dedication to the mental health community.

We’re so excited to be partnering with WBZ / CBS News Boston for Mental Health Awareness Month 💙📺

Throughout the week, we’ll be sharing PSAs focused on important mental health topics to help ensure everyone has access to safe, affordable care while also supporting their mental wellness in everyday life.

Today’s PSA focuses on AI and why it should never replace clinical mental health care. Working with a licensed therapist is an essential part of treatment, and meaningful care is built on clinical expertise, trust, and human connection 💬

Stay tuned this week for more PSAs and conversations around mental health awareness ✨
